    Transaction Processing

    Systems

Transaction Processing Systems ("TPS") are designed to process

routine transactions efficiently and accurately without mistakes.

A business will have several TPS; for instance:

y Billing systems to send invoices to customersy Systems that calculate the weekly and monthly payroll

and tax payments of the business.

y Production and purchasing systems to calculate rawmaterial needed for production

Developing Strategy to improve Information System

Here I would explain the strategy to improveManagement Information Systems which is one

of the most important information system

Before starting the strategy of development lets take a look on

    TYPES OF MANAGEMENT INFORMATION

Seven types of information are necessary for top-level managers.

    1. Comfort information: This informs about current situation or achievement levels that aretuned to expectations. (Clients served, target achieved, operations conducted etc.)

    2. Status information or progress information: This keeps abreast of current problem andcrises and changes. (Progress on office construction, status of research study, labor

    negotiation, grant application)

    3. Warning information: These are the signals that change for good or worse are occurring(stock price, turn over, customers complaints, etc.)

    4. Planning information: This information includes descriptions of projects/programs due infuture, knowledge of anticipated developments (future of funding, future of

    federal/governmental support)

    5. Internal operations information: These are the indicators on how organization/program isperforming.

    6. External intelligence: This information includes the gossip, and opinions about activities inthe environment of the agency. Competition, funding policies, political changes and

    emerging social policies etc

    7. Externally distributed information: This information are the annual report beforerelease, quarterly progress report for donors, press releases about the agency, publicity

    material before printing, etc.

Steps to improve access to MIS

    Preliminary Investigationy The problem

In order to improve the access of current system to information the Kelloggs needed toidentify the problem it had previously during access.

y Viability and cost effectivenessKelloggs need to find the cost of developing the new to approach information system

y ObjectivesThe objectives are as follows:

The Information system of Kelloggs should process information at high speed, toavoid any delay

The system should be very accurate to avoid any mistakes Accessing should be faster and wide area of accessing information Provide a better security measure such as usage of passwords so as the access

    becomes more accurate.

    Requirements Analysis

y Knowing the primary and secondary usersAscertaining user needs

    Systems design

y StorageThe storage medium should be improved to improve the access. For the improved system

Kelloggs have planned to increases the capacity storage in order to make the accessing

    faster

    Acquisition/procurement

y CompatibilityAbility of two or more systems or their components to work together without user

    intervention Or modification

The new system would enable all information to be interlinked so that the information

and knowledge can be easily shared within employees

    Implementation/installationy Application development

y TestingA test plan is a systematic approach to testing a system such as a machine or software.

The plan typically contains a detailed understanding of what the eventual workflow will

be. A test plan documents the strategy that will be used to verify and ensure that a

hardware product or system meets its design specifications and other requirements.

y Debugging logical and syntacticaly Procedure and user manual preparationy Orientation and trainingy Maintenance and up gradation
