ThisweekPradhanMantriUrjaGangaschemewasinnews.ThoughtheschemewaslaunchedinOctober2016itwasfloatinginthenewspaperthisweekaswellandisqualifiedtobecoveredasweek’scurrentaffair.Theschemewaslaunchedon24thOctober2016inVaranasibythePrimeMinisterhimself.ItwasrecentlyinnewsbecausethegovernmenthasgivenapprovaltoGAILtobuildadditional400kilometresofpipelineunderthescheme.ThisextensionisfromDobhiinBihartoDurgapurinWestBengalthroughJharkhandasyoucanseeinthefollowingmap.

AbouttheScheme

PradhanMantriUrjaGangaschemeisanothernameforaschemedevelopingaseriesofpipelineundertheaegisofGasIndiaLimited.AnothernameforthisschemeisJHBDPLpipeline.JHBDPLstandsforsomeprominentcitieslocatedonthisproposedpipeline.TheyareJagdishpur(UP),Haldia(WestBengal),Bokaro(Jharkhand)andDhamra(Odisha).Thepipelineoncebuiltwillbe2,655kilometreslong.Theadjacentmapshowsthepipelineindetail:Asyoucanseefromthemap,thepipelineflowsthrough5states-UttarPradesh,Bihar,Jharkhand,WestBengalandOdisha.Theimportantcitiesonthispipelineinclude:

1. Jagdishpur,Lucknow,VaranasifromUttarPradesh2. Patna,Gaya,BarauniandSindrifromBihar.3. Ranchi,Bokaro,JamshedpurfromJharkhand.4. Durgapur,KolkataandHaldiafromWestBengal5. Rourkela,Cuttack,Bhubaneshwar,ParadipandDhamrainOdisha.

ParadipandDhamraaretwooutoffourimportantportsconnectedtothispipeline.TheothertwoportsareKolkataandHaldia.

SignificanceoftheScheme

Ifwelookatthesignificanceofthescheme,theschemewillresultin:Firstly,thegrowthandcollectivedevelopmentofeasternIndianregionbyprovidingcleanfueltothetransportationsectoranddomestichouseholdsector.Secondly,theenergylifelineprovidedbythispipelinewillfeedtheincreasedemandofenergyoftheindustriesinthisregionandwillgiveapushtothem.Someoftheimportantindustrieslocatedonthispipelineinclude:

1. IronandSteelpowerplantsofBokaroandJamshedpurinJharkhand,2. Iron&Steel,Power,Cement,Chemicals,Heavyengineeringetc.inDurgapur,

WestBengal3. Leather,Chemical,Fertilizers,IronandSteelofKanpurinUttarPradesh.4. SteelandFertiliserindustryofRourkelainOdisha5. CoalandAluminiumIndustryinAngulinOdisha6. FertiliserindustryatSindriinBiharbesidesautopartsindustryin

Jamshedpur.Andlastbutnottheleast,thepipelinewillconnectimportanteasternIndiancitiesthroughasinglesystemofnetworks.

OtherimportantpipelinenetworksofIndia

NowasanaddonwewilllookintosomeoftheimportantpipelinesofIndiabesidestheJHBDPLpipeline.Theyinclude:Firstly,theHBJpipelinethatconnectHazirainGujaratviaBijapurinMadhyaPradeshtoJagdishpurinUttarPradesh.ThepipelineisoneofthemostprominentgaspipelineofIndiaandispresentlywitnessinganupgradationwherebyitisdirectlyconnectedfromBijapurtoDelhitosupplythegastoPanipat.Second,importantgaspipelineisfromJamnagartoMathurawhichisaLPGpipeline.Youcanseeinyourmap,thisisagreencolouredgaspipeline.Thirdly,thereisEast-WestGaspipelinethatconnecttheeasterncoastofIndiawithwesterncoastandisbeingdevelopedbyRelianceIndustries.Thisyoucanseeinthefollowingmap:

HereyoucanseetheEast-WestPipelinethatisbeingdevelopedbyRelianceIndustriesisstretchesfromKakinadainAndhraPradeshtoBharuchinGujarat.IttraversesthroughstatesofAndhraPradesh,Telangana,Karnataka,MaharashtraandGujarat.ThecurrentgassourceforEWPListhesignificantgasdiscoveriesmadeintheKG-D6blockownedbyRIL,BritishPetroleum(BP)andNikoResources.
