Questions 57- 59 refer to the following excerpt from an article.
Recently, more attention has been paid to a topic that in the past was often ignored: mental
illness in the workplace. Because the mental health of employees can affect a company's
profits, more employers are increasing their mental health coverage. One example is
Speedy Autos. It has started a program that allows its workers to speak with a trained
counselor for free. Even though it's only over the phone, they can call as frequently as they
want. In addition, they can have three face-to-face counseling sessions at no charge. The
company also trains managers to deal with employees with personal problems.
But, most companies' mental health coverage still lags far behind their coverage of physical
ailments. Many health plans limit the number of times an employee can see a mental health
provider. In these cases, employees were four times more likely to quit than if their
company offered unlimited access. Despite recent improvements, many workers who suffer
from mental problems still don't want to tell their employers for fear that they won't
understand. However, companies that are willing to make the effort to accommodate their
workers will benefit from the increased loyalty the employees show.
57. What is mentioned about Speedy Autos?
(A) It offers excellent mental health
coverage.
(B) It has improved condition of its
workplace.
(C) It doesn't take its workers' mental health
seriously.
(D) It cares about physical health more than
mental health.
58. According to the article, what are employees
with mental illnesses reluctant to do?
(A) Disclose their problems to colleagues
(B) Report their condition to employers
(C) File lawsuits against the company
(D) Seek the help of specialists or therapy
59. According to the article, what might a
company with limited mental health coverage
experience?
(A) The frequent loss of employees
(B) An unhealthy workforce
(C) Little chance of recruiting qualified
applicants
(D) An ineffective work process

Questions 81 through 85 refer to the following memo and email response.
To: All Supervisors
From: Andrew Kirby, Director of Human Resources
Re: Procedures for Transfers
Date: August 17, 2005
When employees request transfers to other departments, you should follow these procedures:
1. Meet individually with the employees to discuss their qualifications for the new position.
Make sure they are aware of anything that could disqualify them.
2. Do not discourage the request; our company policy is to help employees find the jobs they
want.
3. Give Form 34- 12, Application for Transfer, to the employees requesting transfers.
4. When employees have completed Sections 1-5 of the form, you should fill out Section 6,
Supervisor's comments, at the bottom of the form.
5. Attach a copy of each employee's latest Performance Evaluation to the pink copy of the
form.
6. Send the pink copy to me. Keep the yellow copy for your reference.
7. Employees should know the outcome of their application within three weeks.
At that time, they may review the documents and discuss the decision with you.
To: Andrew Kirby <[email protected]>
From: Malcolm Powell <[email protected]>
Subject: Procedure for transfers
Date: Aug 19, 2005
Dear Andrew,
I've been going through the procedure for transfers, but I'm afraid that I don't quite agree with
everything. I have given things a lot of thought and here are my comments.
I strongly disagree with point number 2: "Do not discourage the request." In my experience,
employees have a habit of putting themselves forward for positions for which they are unsuited.
This is particularly a problem where the employee has the right qualifications and job experience,
but lacks the right skills or personality. I think it would be very misleading not to tell an employee
that they are not an appropriate candidate in such a case.
I also think that the three weeks decision-making period is far too short. Sometimes, it can take up
to six weeks to gather information from other departments. Since we cannot make an informed
decision without all the relevant documents, I think we should extend the period to six weeks.
Anyway, these are just a few thoughts.
Thanks,
Malcolm

Dear Sirs,
Re: Coupon #MUJ8745
I recently applied for the above coupon, the details of which ran in the national press earlier this
month. I am a 35-year-old with a clean driving license, no traffic violations, a perfect credit
record, and no criminal background. However, when I tried to apply for this rental offer, I was
treated like a common criminal.
I object strongly to the fact that I was fingerprinted, and my prints were run through police
records. All I wanted to do was to take advantage of a $15 rental discount. I had heard that
Johnson's Motors operates according to very strict guidelines, but this is ridiculous. Furthermore,
my application was rejected with no explanation other than, "Sorry, you do not fit our rental
criteria." I cannot begin to imagine who you do rent cars to.
I will be warning all my friends and acquaintances against using Johnson's Motors.
Sincerely,
Matthew Jernsted

Questions 96-100 refer to the following e-mail messages.
Date: November 21
To: Jared Bronks, Sylvia Stevens ([email protected])
From: Jonathan Humbrooks ([email protected])
Subject: Domestic Fruit Order #293945
We appreciate your continued business and have sent 3 boxes of peaches to your store in
Atlanta this morning. However, we are sorry to inform you that we could not fulfill your
original order of a total of 6 boxes. All of our peaches are out of stock for the rest of the year
and will not be available for purchase until next October.
We always want to send all of the fruit that our customers order, but, due to the early arrival of
winter in North America this year, the peach harvest was very small. In addition, peaches are
in heavy demand due to the popularity of peach pies this year. We always want to meet
demand, but circumstances outside of our control have caused us trouble.
I have a good friend who owns a peach farm in Brazil and who may have peaches still
available for sale. If you are interested in having me arrange for the extra 3 boxes of peaches to
be shipped to your address, I should be able to arrange an order for you.
Thank you for continued business and for ordering our world-famous peaches.
J. Humbrooks
Sales Manager
Date: November 23
To: Miguel Hernandez, Brazil Peach Company
From: Jonathan Humbrooks, Fruits4Export
Subject: International Fruit Order Inquiry
Hello, Mr. Hernandez,
I have just run out of peaches and was wondering if you had any more left for sale. If you do,
could you please send at least 3 boxes to my warehouse in Atlanta? I know that the price of
peaches has risen lately and would be willing to pay the extra cost.
Will I see you at the next Fruit Association of North America Conference at the Bowery Hotel
this January? It has been a long time since I have seen you in person, and I am wondering how
you and your family are doing. When you get the chance, please give me a call so that we can
catch up.
Best wishes to you this season.
