राज थान का सामा प रचय राज थान े फल क दिृ से हमारे दशे का सबसे बड़ा रा य ह।ै राज थान दशे के
उ र पि म म ि थत ह।ै छठी सता दी के बाद राज थानी भू भाग म राजपूत रा य का उदय ारंभ आ । राजपूत रा य क धानता के कारण इसे राजपुताना कहा जाने लगा । वा मी क
ने राज थान दशे को ‘म कांतर’ कहा ह।ै राज थान श द का ाचीनतम उपयोग ‘राज थािनया द य’ िव संवत 682 म उ क ण वसंतगढ़ (िसरोही ) के िशलालेख म िमलता ह ै।उसके बाद मुहणोत नैणसी क यात व राज पक म राज थान श द का योग आ ह ैसन ्1800 ई.म "जाज थामस" ने राज थान के इस भाग के िलए ‘राजपुताना’ क सं ा दी। इस बात का उ लेख िविलयम किलन क पु तक "िमिल ी मेमोरी" म आता ह।ै कनल जे स टॉड ने इस रा य को “रायथान” कहा य क थानीय सािह य एवं बोलचाल म राजा के िनवास के
ा त को ‘रायथान’ कहते थ।े 19 वी. सदी म कनल ज स टा◌ॅड ने अपनी पु तक “एना◌ॅ स एडं एटी टज आ◌ॅफ राज थान” मे राज थान श द का योग कया। इस पु तक का दसूरा नाम “सै ल एडं वे टन टे स आफ इंिडया” ह।ै इस पु तक का पहली बार िह दी अनुवाद राज थान के िस इितहासकार गौरीशंकर- हीराचंद ओझा न े कया। इसे िह दी म " ाचीन राज थान का िव ेषण" कहत ेह।ैकनल जे स टा◌ॅड 1818-1821 के म य मेवाड़ (उदयपुर) ांत म पोिल टकल ऐजे ट थे। उ होने अपने घोडे़ पर बठैकर घूम-घूम कर इितहास लेखन कया अतः कनल ज स डा◌ॅड को घोड ेवाला बाबा के नाम से भी जाना जाता ह।ै 30 माच,1949 को चार बड़ी रयासत - जयपुर, जोधपुर, जैसलमरे एवं बीकानेर का रा य म िवलय होने के बाद वृहत राज थान का गठन आ। तभी से 30 माच को ‘राज थान दवस’ के प म मनाया जाता ह।ै 26 जनवरी 1950 को िविधवत् प से इस दशे का नाम राज थान वीकार कया गया। रा य के पहले राज मुख जयपुर के महाराजा सवाई मान संह एवं थम धानमं ी(मु यमं ी)
ी हीरालाल शा ी बने। 1952 म ए आम चुनाव के बाद थम िनवािचत मु यमं ी ी टीकाराम पालीवाल बने।
