The leading cause of death and disability

½ of all adults have one or more chronic diseases while 1

in four have two or more

7 of the top 10 causes of death were from chronic

diseases. Heart disease and cancer accounted for 48%

of these deaths

Arthritis is the most common cause of disability

More than 1/3 of adults and 20% of youths ages 2 to 19

are considered obese

Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, lower

limb amputations and new cases of blindness

Use a present value amount for future health care

costs excluding long term care, dental and over the

counter medications. (Fidelity $220,000 study for 65

year old couple)
