PRESS RELEASE
Judiciary of Guam Supports the Executive Branch Call to
Conserve Energy and Intends to Participate in GPA’s Proposed
Interruptible Load Program Plan
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(September 18, 2015)(Guam Judicial Center, Hagåtña) – Along with the Legislative
Branch, the Judiciary of Guam supports Acting Governor’s Ray Tenorio’s call to
conserve energy. Recognizing the importance of assisting the Guam Power Authority
(GPA) to sustain energy generation for island residents, the Judiciary intends to
participate in GPA’s proposed Interruptible Load Program plan. Under the proposed
Program, the Judiciary would get off of GPA’s power grid and switch to generator power
during the peak hours of 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. based on a schedule to be determined with
GPA. “With the recent damage to the Cabras 3 and 4 power plants, the Judiciary will do
its part to assist GPA in continuing to provide power generation services to the
community,” stated Chief Justice Robert J. Torres. “The Judiciary’s intent to participatein the Interruptible Load Program will not affect court services or programs as the switch
to generator power will occur after business hours,” noted Chief Justice Torres.
Administrator of the Courts Joshua F. Tenorio added, “Internally, the Judiciary
shall request that its employees engage in energy savings practices such as turning off air
conditioning units, lights, computers, monitors and other items that consume energy
when not in use.” Tenorio further stated that, “The Judiciary of Guam is committed to
taking steps to conserve energy, to implement energy savings measures, and to eliminate
unnecessary power consumption.”
