Psalm 86:11-17

Officiant: 11 Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; *

knit my heart to you that I may fear your Name.12 I will thank you, O Lord my God, with all my heart, *

and glorify your Name for evermore.13 For great is your love toward me; *

you have delivered me from the nethermost Pit.14 The arrogant rise up against me, O God,and a band of violent men seeks my life; *

they have not set you before their eyes.15 But you, O Lord, are gracious and full of compassion, *

slow to anger, and full of kindness and truth.16 Turn to me and have mercy upon me; *

give your strength to your servant;and save the child of your handmaid.

17 Show me a sign of your favor,so that those who hate me may see it and be ashamed; *because you, O Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

THE LESSONSAll may be seated.

Isaiah 44:6-8

Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:

I am the first and I am the last;besides me there is no god.

Who is like me? Let them proclaim it,let them declare and set it forth before me.

Who has announced from of old the things to come?Let them tell us what is yet to be.

Do not fear, or be afraid;have I not told you from of old and declared it?You are my witnesses!

Is there any god besides me?There is no other rock; I know not one.

Romans 78:12-25

Brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh-- for if youlive according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receivea spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry,“Abba! Father!” it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God,and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ-- if, in fact, we suffer with himso that we may also be glorified with him.

I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory aboutto be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children ofGod; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one whosubjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and willobtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has beengroaning in labor pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For inhope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen? But if wehope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

The Reading from the Holy Gospel (Standing) Matthew 13:24-30,36-43

Deacon: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. Matthew. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Jesus put before the crowd another parable: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared tosomeone who sowed good seed in his field; but while everybody was asleep, an enemy came andsowed weeds among the wheat, and then went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared as well. And the slaves of the householder came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where, then, did these weeds come from?’ He answered,‘An enemy has done this.’ The slaves said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’But he replied, ‘No; for in gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. Letboth of them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect theweeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’”

Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples approached him, saying,“Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” He answered, “The one who sows the goodseed is the Son of Man; the field is the world, and the good seed are the children of the kingdom;the weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvestis the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are collected and burned up withfire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collectout of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and they will throw them into the furnace offire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sunin the kingdom of their Father. Let anyone with ears listen!”

Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Apostles’ Creed (Standing, read in unison) BCP 96

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Gospel Acclamation #209 ELW Blessed be God the Source of All Life(Sung twice before and once after the Gospel.)

The congregation is seated.

The Gospel Reading Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43 NIV

Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seedin his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. Theowner’s servants came to him and said, “Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where thendid the weeds come from?”

“An enemy did this,” he replied. The servants asked him, “Do you want us to go and pull themup?”

“No,” he answered, “because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat withthem. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collectthe weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.”

Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explainto us the parable of the weeds in the field. He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is theSon of” Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. Theweeds are the people of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is theend of the age, and the harvesters are angels.

“As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Sonof Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sinand all who do evil. They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weepingand gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their father.”

Here is your God, coming with judgment to save you.”Then shall the eyes of the blind be opened,

and the ears of the deaf be unstopped. Then shall the lame leap like a deer,

and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy.For waters shall break forth in the wilderness

and streams in the desert; The burning sand shall become a pool

and the thirsty ground, springs of water. The ransomed of God shall return with singing,

with everlasting joy upon their heads.Joy and gladness shall be theirs,

and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Stone Soup Cafe News!At West Central Episcopal MissionWe are Back in Business!By Director Tracey Waring

The week of June 29-July 2, we served over 100 meal bags, which is over200 meals. The need is great!

And for the first time in their history, we have taken on the café lingo and created "specials:"

School Yard Special are our meals for children 18 and younger. The breakfast and lunch entréesare changed every day.

Court Yard Special are the adult meals we put together. Adult meals are given to parents and thehomeless or hungry that wander through or passed the court yard at West Central EpiscopalMission. They consist of leftovers from the previous day's School Yard bags that cannot be frozen,or some low-cost options, such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and hard-boiled eggs.

Grab Bag Specials are Friday bags of leftovers of items which will not keep well over the weekendor cannot be frozen. These bags provide some extra food for the children, their families or thosewho may need something to eat over the weekend.

We must admit, we have a soft spot for the parents and homeless who ask for meals. These mealsare not covered by USDA and need to be covered by donations. Any help is appreciated.

As always, we have a wish list, so here it is: PRAYERS; MONEY; boxes of graham crackers, eggs, peanut butter, jelly, string cheese, yogurtcups (regular size), paper napkins, bread, English muffins, ground beef, hamburger patties, tacoseasoning, shredded cheddar cheese, and packages of fajita-sized tortillas.Your donations can be brought to St. Andrews Church, 2404 N. Howard St., Tuesday-Friday after 1:30 p.m. Please call and let Tracey know you are coming at 509-481-1167.
