Company profile

WTE – Waste to Energy s.r.l. is an engineering firm, established in 2000,based in Busto Arsizio (in the neighbourhoods of Milan, Italy),specialized in designing and manufacturing waste-to-energy andrenewable energy systems.

WTE was set up by professionals with a significant experience in thefield of plant engineering.

The founding principal of the company, Dr. Daniele De Lodovici, heldrelevant positions as technical director of some of the major Italianplant engineering companies, and has a previous academic experienceat the Milan Polytechnic, where he took his PhD in Energy Engineering.

Structure

WTE’s technical office relies on process engineers, controlengineers and design engineers. This structure is rapidlygrowing.

As many Italian small and midsize enterprises, WTE is atypical networked enterprise.

The firm’s network allows WTE to take advantage from:

n A well established cooperation with externaldesign/engineering firms and companies providingtechnical drawing services

n The external consulting of professionals with a longexperience in some of the major and most reputatedenterprises of the industry (energy engineering orservices companies, multi-utility service companies, etc.)

n A consolidated cooperation with technical universities, standardization bodies and research agencies.

Turnkey systems

WTE can provide different services, supplying new turnkey systems, theirpackages, or engineering modifications or revamping of existing systems, takingfull responsibility on the project, from the requirement analysis to itsimplementation.

EPC (Engineering/Procurement/Construction)

n Basically, a Design & Build contract. The Owner puts minimum effort in theproject, and has only one point of contact, easing communications, coordination, project monitoring

n Investment figure is known from project start. Price is fixed.

n The EPC contractor has direct contracts with vendors of goods and suppliersof services.

n Project risks and costs are managed by EPC contractor.

n Key issues are: the definition of project scope, quality requirements, systemperformances; project milestones; guarantees, liquidated damages andpenalty clauses.

EPCM (Engineering/Procurement/Construction Manage-ment)

n The EPCM services supplier support the Owner with technicaland managerial expertise.

n The Owner contracts directly other contractors supplyinggoods/services, and takes charge of cost control and projectrisk.

n Engineers from the EPCM services supplier will supply theengineering and technical know-how, expedite projectcompletion, support the Owner in procurement, selection ofsubtrades, cost control and project management; increaseeffectiveness of communication between Owner andSubtrades.

n Major advantages for the Owner are: a full transfer oftechnical know-how, the direct involvement in choosingbetween major project options, a significant cost-cut (avoidingthe intervention of a general contractor).

n The involvement of local suppliers of goods and services cangive an additional cost reduction and insure better and fasterpost-commissioning services.

WTE advantage

Meeting your present and future needs...

Every project presents different challenges. And standard, “off the shelf” design can not always giveyou the results you expect.

With the flexible approach to problems that only an engineering firm can have, WTE offers uniquesolutions, specifically tailored to meet your needs.

It does not matter if you need to process “difficult” materials, or a mix of combustibles with differentcharacteristics.

During system requirement analysis, we ascertain types and characteristics of every material envisagedfor usage as combustible, trying to figure out every situation you can possibly face during the entirelifetime of the plant.

The climax of this project phase is represented by the presentation and discussion of the system’scombustion diagram - defining the set of the system’s operating conditions, in accordance to thecharacteristics of materials to process.

... with systems designed to perform

Our systems encompass state-of-the art technologies, and we rely on proprietary, internally developedcalculation models to optimize yield in energy recovery.

But what makes our methodology unique is its being based on the assessment of the adiabaticity of theprocess to implement. This figure represents the amount of heat exchanged in a process.

n non adiabatic systems are better suited to process materials with high energy content. They are highlyefficient, but less flexible to variations in combustibles characteristics.

n adiabatic systems are more flexible and particularly apt to process materials with low energy content. Theycan become very efficient when encompassing some innovative solutions.

n Systems with intermediate characteristics between these two extremes can be designed as well: this way,the flexibility of our design allows to meet your needs in every situation.

... and built to last

When designing a new system we focus on sturdiness and reliability, building on ourexperiences in the highly critical domain of MSW incineration with energy recovery.

Our plants are designed to operate safely, reliably and efficiently – at the lowest possiblecost. This reflects on the choice of design options, construction materials and methods.

With a long experience in the analysis of existing systems, finalized to the engineering ofperfective and remedial maintenance interventions - already recognized and appreciatedby major municipal concerns, environmental services and energy companies - we knowhow to design for easy access, easy maintenance, easiness of operations.

A 360° degrees service to customers

Environmental and renewable energy business are attracting an increasingattention.

Governments and local administrations are facing the issue of sustainabledevelopment. Investors and entrepreneurs are attracted by the investmentpayback of all the projects in the energy business.

A 360° service portfolio is not limited to engineering and projectmanagement.

Waste management consulting

WTE can provide customers with high level consulting on issues related tointegrated waste management, organization and logistic of wastecollection, etc.

Sustainable usage of biomass

The usage of biomass is considered CO2 neutral, but to be sustainable

the biomass burned must be replaced by new biomass growth.

A firm closely connected with WTE can supply consulting services onsustainable usage of biomass, energy crops, short rotation forestry.

Project Financing

New ventures in the waste management and renewable energy fieldcan get a significant support.

Banking and financial institutions are looking with interest to thisbusiness domain.

Additional resources can be obtained within the framework ofinternational agreements (Clean Development Mechanism, international financing of CO2 emissions reduction).

This is particularly true in the case of plants to get renewable energyfrom biomass.

For this reason WTE cooperates with external organizations in positionto effectively support customers also on the financial side of theproject.
