History of Sewa Bharti :-

Sewa Bharti is an All India Voluntary Social Service Organization, committed to National unity, integration and self reliance. A band of dedicated workers established "Sewa Bharti" at Chandigarh in October, 1981.

The organization is out to help the poor, and helpless living in unhygienic labour colonies of the union Territory and its surrounding villages. Sewabharti is devoted to improve the lot of the have-nots, who are deprived of basic needs (amenity) of life and are living below the poverty line, Sewa Bharti intends to provides such people good education , health and employment .


The main emphasis of the organization is to build a strong character of people coming in contact with the organization particularly the youth, because they are the life line of a nation.

The basic plank to achieve the above goal is the well tested, well thought "Sanskar" or a code of conduct developed by our ancient Rishi-Munies and practiced through generations, known as "A Bhartiya way of living".

Besides, Sewa Bharti has been serving the terrorist effected families and making its valuable contribution by helping the unfortunate victims of natural calamities like earthquake, floods, fires and train accidentants etc


Objectives of Sewa Bharti:-

To Serve and help in making self dependent, people who are backward economically, socially, educationally or in any other form, to help the downtrodden and the victims of any natural calamity, floods, earthquake, drought, fire etc. by way of various programmes and projects.

To inculcate the sense of belief, courage and interest in organising various service projects in the Society and to encourage and co-operate with the selfless workers and Organizations.

To do all service works without any discrimination on the basis of religion, community, caste, sex, state, language and various forms of worship.

-Skill Development & Self Reliance

Tailoring centers :- Young women particularly of slums getting married in early age, having one or two babies and getting divorce by their husbands have absolutely no place to go except their parents. Sewa Bharti decided to open tailoring centres to train such helpless women so that they may earn their livelihood and must be in a position to support their babies independently. Keeping this social problem in mind Sewa Bharti opened tailoring centres where ever the problem was serious. The centres are at ten different locations.


Primary Health :-Sewa Bharti have created medical facility for the peoples living particularly

in slum areas, villages in and around chandigarh and a needy general21 mass of chandigarh.

(a) Dispensary:- Well organized, well equipped Dispensary at Sewa Dham. The dispensary is managed under the supervision of a well qualified and well experienced Doctor. The Doctor is supported by a paramedical staff consisting of

(i) Qualified pharmacist(ii) Sufficient stock of medicinesOn an average 90 patient are treated daily.


Education :-

Students of class 8th, 9th and 10th belonging to the economically weaker sections are provided coaching classes under the guidance of well educated teachers "free of cost" at :-(i) Sewa Dham,(ii) Hallo Majra.(a) Bal Sanskar Kender:-Small boys and girls of slum areas and villages, moving around unmindfully in most unhygienic condition, some time naked are taken care by Sewa Bharti. Such kids are enrolled in a Bal Sanskar Kender run by our organisation under the care of a teacher and a helper. These kids are taught basic hindi and mathematics, they are also provided with some refreshment.


ABOUT LAL BAGH AREA :- - LAL BAGH was the place where I worked . This place

was allotted for us by the NGO . - Lal Bagh is in extreme north of delhi.- Sewa bharti’s one of the centre was located in the slums

of lal bagh - When we went to lal bagh. That centre was newly

renovated. - We were asked to prepare a CSR proposal for that

centre .


WORK DONE : -

-We developed a CSR proposal for the Lalbagh center of Sewa Bharati for school development . -We conducted sessions on sanitation and personal hygiene & cleanliness of living areas.-We also helped the children in their day to day studies and took some classes during the field work.-We helped the management in designing the rough sketch for school improvements & also prepared financial estimations.-We as team helped the management in conducting surveys to evaluate the drop out ratio and reasons for drop out.


- Key learnings:

- I learnt, how a CSR project proposal developed and components in the project proposal.

- I got a chance to know about the local situation from where these children come from & the difficulties they are undergoing in terms of their life style.

- I got a chance to learn the evaluation process when I attended survey with Sewa Bharati staff to know the drop out ration of children and key reason for drop out.

- I got a chance to interact with children from all down trodden communities & teach them basic education & importance of cleanliness and hygiene.


Challenges faced :-

Aligning timelines with Sewa Bharti staff in conducting important activities in the field. Due to restricted days for field work (in our case only Tues day & Wednesday), important activities conducted on other week days are missed.

Sewa Bharati expected us to visit different branches they have in Delhi and as they could not provide transportation, we found challenges in reaching the destination and travel consumed a lot of valuable time.

Suggestions to the NGO :-

The ngo should provide id cards to its interns ,

Should provide transportation when entrusted work in their branches.
