SOLAR RADIATION

The portion of the incident solar radiation which comes directly from the apparent solar disc is called Direct or Beam Radiation.

The solar radiation received from the sun after reflection and scattering by the atmosphere is called Diffuse radiation.

Total radiation=diffused radiation + direct radiation

Page 5: PPT OF SOLAR NAVEEN' `11

VIEW OF SOLAR RADIATION

Page 6: PPT OF SOLAR NAVEEN' `11

Photo-Voltaic The conversion of solar radiation into electrical energy takes place by exploiting the effect induced by a luminous flux which invests a semiconductor material 'doped', very often silicon. This physical phenomenon is what occurs in photovoltaic cells .

Page 7: PPT OF SOLAR NAVEEN' `11

Conversion efficiency The energy exploited depends on the characteristics of the material of the cell: the conversion efficiency (percentage of energy contained in the solar radiation that is converted into electricity available at terminals) for commercial silicon cells is typically between 10% and 17%, while laboratory cells have reached values of 24% .

monocrystalline :Solar cell is a dark black colour, and the corners of cells are usually missing as a result of the production process and the physical nature of monocrystalline silicon. The efficiency of mono is 19 -25%.

Polycrystalline :on the other hand, is identifieable by its signature light or dark blue colour, but not uniformly so: some patches are lighter than others. The differences in appearance come about as a result of the manufacturing process. The efficiency of poly is 14 – 18%.

SOLAR COLLECTORSIn most of the devices utilising solar energy, the solar energy in the radiant energy form is converted in to heat energy using mechanical devices known as solar collector. The solar collector absorbs incident solar radiation and transfer the energy to a fluid passing in contact with it.

FLAT PLATE COLLECTOR In flat-plate collectors there is no optical concentration of sunlight and

they are generally stationary . In addition to this their outlet temperature capability is below 100 °C.A flat plate collector is basically a black surface that is placed at a convenient path of the sun.

FOCUSSIN COLLECTORS

1. In concentrating solar collectors the incident solar energy is reflected and made to concentrate at a convenient point. They are classified by -

1.1 According to type of reflecting medium:

1.1.1 parabolic, spherical or flat concentrators

1.2 According to the optics :

1.1.2 point focus system, line focus system

SOLAR POWER PLANT MAINLY TWO TYPES

1. OFF-GRID SYSTEM 2.ON-GRID SYSTEM

OFF GRID SYSTEM-

We design and develop a comprehensive range of Off Grid Solar Power Plant – Domestic. This device is attached to a battery through a charge controller. This inverter supplies AC power, allowing the use of normal electrical appliances. This system is ideal for electricity access to isolated areas (mountain huts, developing countries).

INTELLIGENT ELECTRONICS DEVICS

Any device incorporating one or more processors with the capability to receive or send data/control from or to an external source (e.g., electronic multifunction meters, digital relays, controllers)

Page 37: PPT OF SOLAR NAVEEN' `11

Instrument Transformers

Instrument transformers are used to sense power system current and voltage values. They are physically connected to power system apparatus and convert the actual power system signals, which include high voltage and current magnitudes, down to lower signal levels

Page 38: PPT OF SOLAR NAVEEN' `11

Transducer

Transducers convert the analog output of an instrument transformer from one magnitude to another or from one value type to another, such as from an ac current to dc voltage.

Page 39: PPT OF SOLAR NAVEEN' `11

Communications Port Switch

A communications switch is a device that switches between several serial ports when it is told to do so. The remote user initiates communications with the port switch via a connection to the substation, typically a leased line or dial-up telephone connection. Once connected, the user can route their communications through the port switch to one of the connected substation IEDs. The port switch merely “passes through” the IED communications.

Page 40: PPT OF SOLAR NAVEEN' `11

Meter

A meter is an IED that is used to create accurate measurements of power system current, voltage, and power values. Metering values such as demand and peak are saved within the meter to create historical information about the activity of the power system.

Page 41: PPT OF SOLAR NAVEEN' `11

Digital Fault Recorder

A digital fault recorder (DFR), is an IED that records information about power system disturbances. It is capable of storing data in a digital format when triggered by conditions detected on the power system. Harmonics, frequency, and voltage are examples of data captured by DFRs.

Page 42: PPT OF SOLAR NAVEEN' `11

Load Tap Changer (LTC)

Load tap changers are devices used to change the tap position on transformers. These devices work automatically or can be controlled via another local IED or from a remote operator or process.

Automatic generation control

In an electric power system, automatic generation control (AGC) is a system for adjusting the power output of multiple generators at different power plants, in response to changes in the load.

Page 48: PPT OF SOLAR NAVEEN' `11

Conclusion

So the solar plant is the most convenient part of the india we should all together work for this project. As my view I want to you interest in solar power plant to save the energy. The government of India has decided to integrate all the state power utilities. Unified load dispatch Centre has to be build. So automation has lot more advantages as it increases efficiency and increase standardization. India is moving ahead toward automation are you??
