A.Y. 2014-2015

Partner Community: Sitio Bamban, Hermosa, Bataan

Background of the Community:• Agriculture is the foremost source of income, particularly root crops

(camote, ube, cassava)• The residents also plant papaya, gabi, ginger, chili pepper, etc. which

they sell to wholesalers.• Foraging produce in the mountainside forest is also a means of living.• Charcoal making is also done but not all residents have enough

resources to do so.Other social problems in the community:• No access to public transportation• No access to further skills• Lack of work opportunities in the area• Proper sanitation is also a key issue in the area as there are no working

toilets and almost all of the children were obviously malnourished.

ACHARA MAKING (Livelihood Program)Project Objectives:• To be able to teach the residents of the community on how to

make food products and help them with their livelihood programs• To be able to make food products wherein residents can use to

gain extra income• To be able to expose our student volunteers in the daily lives of

the residents of the community• To establish a better relationship between the Business

Economics students and the people residing in the community

Project Details:

• The event shall take place on September 07, 2014 (Sunday) from 8:00am to 2:00pm at Sitio Bamban, Hermosa, Bataan.

• Participants will be conducting a training program for the community.

• Participants will be teaching the residents on how to make papaya achara.

• Before the activity, participants will be oriented on how to make the food product.

• Participants of the project will be the UST Economics Society’s Board of Directors, Associates, and with some of the faculty members of the Business Economics Department.

PROPER HYGIENE AND CLEAN ENVIRONMENT (Health Seminar)Project Objectives:

• To guide and educate the children of the community about proper hygiene and grooming routine.

• To instil the importance of personal hygiene and clean environment that will help in avoiding illnesses and improve their health and physical appearance.

Project Details:

• This activity aims to educate the children in the community about the proper grooming routines.

• This seminar covers from proper washing of hands and feet, cleaning of ears, brushing of teeth and other related proper grooming which can help them to avoid sickness due to lack of proper grooming.

• In this outreach program, the students can interact with the children and share their knowledge about proper grooming.

MINI LIBRARYProject Objectives:

• To build a mini library that will serve as a learning ground to the whole community and a place where they can obtain different information that can help them achieve intellectual growth.

• To make reading materials necessary in school accessible to them.

Project Details:

• This outreach program aims build a mini library that will serve as a learning ground for the community.

• Some of the books from the students will be donated for the community.

• Participants will be helped by professional carpenters in doing the needed shelves for the mini library.

IMMERSIONProject Objectives:

• To provide opportunity for the students to be immersed into the life of other people giving them a greater understanding and awareness of their own self

• To expose students to issues of poverty and injustice while experiencing unique cultures and environments

• To help established community service programs that are responsive to the needs of the community and that are attuned to its existing culture and resources.

• To foster a sense of caring for others through direct involvement

• To enhance what is taught in school by extending student learning beyond the classroom and into the community

Project Description:

• It is a one day immersion activity in a community where participants live in solidarity with their foster families.

• The Immersion Experience Program has five values: education, service, social justice, community, and spirituality. Program participants are invited to grow in each of these areas during the experience preparation, the trip itself, and the post-trip reflection.

• Each student applying will participate in an interview with immersion representatives.
