PPE & SAFETY
10
It is clear that legislation changes in the health and safety sector are ongoing and will only intensify as time progresses. The welding products in this section not only meet but exceed these requirements and are well placed to meet the challenges of the future.
WHY CHOOSE OUR PPE?
FACT – WELDING FUMES NOW A GROUP 1 CARCINOGENWelding fumes and UV radiation are Group 1 carcinogens – the highest designation possible for agents that can cause cancer in humans, with welding fumes’ designation being raised from Group 2B since the International Agency for Research on Cancer’s (IARC) revision in March 2017.
If exposure limits cannot be controlled, welders must wear PPE such as the EN12941 (TH2) approved face shield.
CE EN 12941 THP – WHAT DOES IT MEAN?Our range of PAPR systems have been designed and manufactured to comply with EN12941 and have reached the highest levels of protection.
THP3 System offering Nominal Protection Factor (NPF) of 500 based on the Total Inward Leakage (TIL)
THP3 has a maximum TIL of 0.2% = Nominal Protection factor of 500 THP2 has a maximum TIL of 2.0% = Nominal Protection factor of 50THP1 has a maximum TIL of 10% = Nominal Protection factor of 10THP3 is 10 times better than THP2!
MINIMUM REQUIRED PROTECTION FACTOR (MRPF)The ratio between breathing zone concentration and allowable concentration inside the face piece
workplace concentration outside the welding helmet
Maximum allowable concentration inside the helmet
Maximum allowable concentration inside the helmet
Example:General welding fume – Maximum allowable concentration inside helmet = 5mg/m3
Workplace welding fume concentration (measured by dust sampling) = 250mg/m3 Work place protection factor required 250/5 = 50.
