OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING 1200 S. CARLISLE STREET Please note that the following information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues. On Saturday, 5/30/15, at approximately 7:23 P.M., two 17th District Officers observed a silver colored Infiniti QX70 in the 1400 block of S. 18 th Street. The officers checked the license plate through their Mobile Data Terminal, which revealed that the license plate is registered to a Nissan, not an Infiniti; therefore the officers signaled for the operator to stop. The operator, a 24 year old male, fled at a high rate of speed through several streets and eventually struck a parked unattended vehicle and the exterior building at 14XX Wharton Street. The male then exited the vehicle and fled on foot with a handgun in his hand. The Officers pursued the male on foot for several blocks, while giving him verbal commands to stop and surrender. However once in the 1200 block of S. Carlisle Street, the male partially turned toward the officers, while still holding the gun in his hand. Both Officers discharged their weapons, however missing the male. The male dropped to the ground and dropped his handgun in front of a house on 1200 block of S. Carlisle Street. The male then got back up and ran north on Carlisle Street and another arriving Officer discharged his Electronic Control Weapon (Taser) at him. The male then ran westbound on Federal Street and he was apprehended at 14xx Federal Street after a brief struggle. The male was transported to Jefferson Hospital, where he was treated for lacerations to his forehead and left hand, and released. The male's firearm, a Glock Model 22, .40 caliber pistol, with an extended (22) round capacity magazine, and obliterated serial number was recovered in front of a property on 1200 S. Carlisle Street. The firearm was loaded with twenty .40 caliber rounds of ammunition. The male's vehicle was recovered at 1406 Wharton Street and towed to the Police Garage. A search warrant will be obtained to investigate the contents of the vehicle. There were no other injuries as a result of this incident. Internal Affairs is investigating this incident. The officers will be placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 31, 2015 CONTACT: Lt.
