Test moduleTest module is the basic test unit inPowerTest.

We can have access to test modules just fromthe start page.

For example in basic we can have thefollowing test modules available.

We can select one or more test modules at thesame time according to our test requirement.

Test templateTest template is composed by one ore testmodules.

Test template is used to test a completeprotective relay system where different relaytests are required.

    How to generate testtemplate

Step 1Select test modules to be included in the testtemplate from the start page and enter into thetest page. In our example here we are going togenerate a test template which containsRamp and Distance(R,X) modules.

Step 2In the Task List area of test page right clickthe mouse button and we see the pop-upselection page

Step 3Click the Disable multi -select option tomake it active. After this operation we will beable to select more test modules at the sametime.

    Step 4Select the two modules

Step 5We can also change the module name. To doit we can right click the mouse button andselect Rename. Then we see the pop-updialog box.

Step 6Enter the new name for the module.

Step 7Make relay settings for these two modulesaccordingly.

Step 8In the Task Lis t area right click the mousebutton and select Save as Template File anwe will be asked to select the folder where wewant to save the template.

    Step 9

Select the folder we want to save the templateand give the name for the template.

    Open test template

There are three ways to open the testtemplates.

    Open template from start page

Click the Templates button in the start pageand select the template file from the folderwhere the template file is saved. Then we willenter into the test page automatically with testmodules containing in this template. The testparameters and relay settings in the savedtemplate will also be uploaded here.

    Open template from test page

We can also open the template from the testpage.

In the test page drop-down menu selectTemplate and select open. Then we need toselect template file from the place where itssaved.

    Open template from report

If we have save the test report in PowerTestformat with the extension ofrpt we can alsoopen the template through opening this reportin any module.

rpt format test report can be opened in the tesmodule. At the same time the templateinformation contained in the report will also be

    opened.

    System settings

In the start page we can set some basicsystem settings which will be applicable for alltest modules.

Click System Set to enter into the settingpage.

    Voltage (LL)

Here we need to give the nominal secondary

voltage of PT which is connected to the relayvoltage input.

If we know the L-N voltage we can get the L-Lvoltage with the following calculation.

    ( ) ( ) / 3V LN V LL=

    Current

Here we need to give the nominal secondarycurrent of CT which is connected to the relaycurrent input.

    Frequency

Here we need to define the system frequency

    Debounce time

This time will be used to filter the bouncing ofoutput contact of the relay under test.

    Example:

In above example the relay contact isexperiencing bouncing process. The durationof T1-T4 are all less than 3ms. So these T1-T4bouncing will not be sensed by our testsoftware. The T5 sensed by the test softwarebecause its duration is longer than 3ms.

By default we set 3ms here. Customer needsto make necessary modification if this settingcan not meet the test requirement.

The setting range is 0-25msWhen test is over we will consider thisdebounce time in our tripping time calculationSo that no extra error will be added to trippingtime result.

    Instrument

The PowerTest software can be used bydifferent model of our relay test sets. Beforewe enter into the test page customer needs to

select the model he is going to use

    Set Comm.

Here we need to define the communicationport of the relay test set. By default Ethernetwill be set here.

    Aux DC

Here we can set theAuxi liary DC for drivingthe relay which requires DC power supply.

The auxiliary DC voltage will be generatedat the moment we start the test and willremain active when we change from testmodule to test module.

We can also set the auxiliary DC in the testpage by selectingAuxDC in Settings ofdrop-down menu

Then we can see the setting page as shownbellow.

Drag the cursor to the setting position and clic

    OK to confirm the setting.

To stop the auxiliary DC output we need toenter into the above setting page and set dragthe cursor to OFF position.

Click OK button to confirm this operation.

    Binary input type

For relay test set with adjustable threshold weneed to configure the binary inputcharacteristic and/or threshold here.

Click Binary to enter into the setting page.

Potential FreeFor potential free contact customer needs toselect the potential free box for the binary inputto be used. In that case the setting forthreshold will be prohibited.

ThresholdFor potential contact customer needs to set

    the threshold here.

The threshold is the point where potentialcontact changes from high status to low statusor from low status to high status.

Close statusFor potential free or potential contact customercan associate its actual status with that to bedisplayed in the software. For example, wecan define the high status of potential contactas the closed status in the software, or vise

    versa.

    Example: setting potential contact

Suppose the potential contact has a thresholdof 90V. Bellow 90V the potential contact is to

be regarded as closed status in the softwareWhen the contact status changes the voltagapplied to the binary input will jump to 220VWe can set any one of the 8 binary inputs. Inthis example we are going to set binary inpu1.

----------------------------------------------Note: We can increase the thresholsetting to avoid possible electromagnetic noisat the site. For example we can set 110V ithis example

    ----------------------------------------------

In the example above the low status voltage is90V, lower than the threshold setting of 110V.When potential status changes the voltage wi

jump to 220V and this status will be regardedas open status in the software.

    PowerTest Basic Concept

    GPS Instruction

GPSTest state will be switched to the nextone if GPS pulse signal is received. GPSsignal trigger condition means the end of thecurrent state (after output 50ms) and begin ofnext state.

GPS is usually used in the ends of linedifferential protection to make online test. Itrequires the current as 0 beforesynchronization output. If the GPS is set as thefirst state (before fault), there should not becurrent output. If the first state has currentoutput, it will make the first state protection tripsince the outputs of both sides is not

    synchronized.

Example:The line differential protection is made bysimulating phase A fault in State Sequence.

The following is the parameter setting.

    It is waveform output.

From the waveform, there is a 50mS statewaveform output after receiving GPS signals.

The waveform is synchronized at both ends athis time.
