One night in 2013, Kaveh was behaving unusually, he wouldn’t settle, he’d lie with his head between his splayed paws for only a few seconds and then get back up. He started to grumble and his usually define stomach started to bloat.
Kaveh was x-rayed and diagnosed with having Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV) which required an emergency life saving operation which took over 5 hours and required the vet to take his stomach out, untwist it, empty it, sew it back up, put it back in and sew it to the chest wall to help prevent it happening again.
He spent a further 3 days hospitalised, before being sent home to recover with pain medication, on strict bed rest before being slowly introduced back to exercise over a 6-8 week period.
