Defining LIDDA Service Coordination in a Managed Care Environment
If it looks like a duck and swims like a duck, then it must be a duck.
Duck is the common name for a large number of
species in the Anatidae family of waterfowl which
also includes swans and geese. The ducks are
divided among several subfamilies in the family of
Antadiae; they do not represent a monophyletic
group (the group of all descendants of a single
common ancestral species) but a form taxon, since
swans and gees are not considered ducks. Ducks
are mostly aquatic birds, mostely smaller than swans
and geese. Ducks are mostly aquatic birds, mostly
smaller than the swans and geese, and may be
found in both fresh water and sea water. Ducks are
sometimes confused with several types of unrelated
water birds with similar forms, such as loons or
divers, grebes, gallinules, and coots.
This is a loon. This is a duck.
And this is why it matters…
HOW Project Elements
Create a one-page briefing document
clearly outlining the differences
between LIDDA and MCO “service
coordination”
Create a 8-10 page policy document
with greater detail and consumer
stories
Collect data
• face-to-face and phone calls with
consumers and the community
• actual caseload size
• number of facility transfer, closed
providers, transistion out of SLCC
Targeted Case
