The Issue - Lifts
require a working communication system to be “safe to operate”
usually a phone system located in the lift
(Safety) Trapped passengers connect directly to the lift company

Operate over the Telstra network which uses public switching technology via powered Copper wire and/or HFC lines.
Utilise the electrical power from the Telstra Network

Employs IP technology (Fibre Optic)
NOT COMPATIBLE with lift phones Zero voltage Is NOT guaranteed to work during a power
outage

October 2015 – Representative working group formed
Objectives:
i. Formulate a policy and framework
ii. Work toward alternative communication system
iii. Issue “good practice guidelines”
iv. Satisfy minimum code/safety requirements.

Solution will use 3G technology NBN + 3G Dual sim card
Migration will not be automatic – owners must take action
The Countdown……..
Some areas “ready for service” now, however embargo for disconnection of lift and fire emergency phones to 30 June 2017 for registered services (phone lines)
From 1st July 2017, “business as usual” managed disconnection process will commence
Migration completed by 2020

Register Lift (and Fire) emergency telephone lines with NBN’s “Fire & Lift Register” to take advantage of the deferred disconnection period.
Check when NBN will be “ready for service” in your area (NBN website)
Disconnection 18 months after “ready for service” unless registered.
Actions….
Take early action - contact lift service provider or engage consultants to determine appropriate course of action.
Budget and plan an installation date for the new lift emergency communication system
