• Your children have already sat the sample papers provided by the government. This means they are familiar with the layout and content. It also provided us with an opportunity to analyse any gaps in the children’s learning. Practice papers, in the same style as the tests, are sent home weekly.

•Reading – children have weekly comprehension lessons. Questions are regularly in the same style as the SATs questions. Children have the opportunity to work in small groups with the teacher during these lessons. •SPAG – children have two SPaG lessons a week. These lessons focus on all of the topics that will be covered in the assessments. This includes recapping work taught in previous years as well as new material. Work is given in a similar style to the SATs questions. Spellings are taught and tested weekly. •Maths – Daily maths lessons cover the topics for the arithmetic and reasoning papers. Children are taught problem solving skills in order to tackle the reasoning papers. An additional arithmetic lesson is taught each week where the children have the opportunity to work through arithmetic papers and improve their speed and accuracy.

We request that the following items are in school, in the appropriate pencil case or zip lock bag by Friday April 15th. Each child will require the following items in a clear pencil case (with no writing) or zip-lock bag: - 2 blue pens (not the rub-out/friction pens - this style of pen can rub out during transportation and guidelines specifically state these pens are not to be used) - 3 lead pencils - sharpener - protractor (to measure angles) - compass (to draw circles) - 30cm ruler (NOT the bendy type - these do not draw straight lines once they have been bent) The children are not allowed rubbers/erasers for the tests so there is no need to include one in the pencil case. Calculators are also strictly not allowed.
