sQ 2000 is the next-generation hardware server platform for studio, news and sports applications. sQ 2000 is an ultra high-density video server that offers up to 12 UHD/24 3G/HD channels in 3 RU, and is also at the heart of the new LiveTouch slow-motion and instant replay system. As it is based on a real-time operating system with a robust and reliable design, the sQ 2000 series of servers can deliver sustained multiyear 24x7 operation for high-pressure fast-turnaround workflows.

System overview sQ 2000 from Grass Valley is a scalable news and sports production system, making workflows fast and effortless with its patented FrameMagic technol-ogy. It is easily configurable to support large news and sports events along with multiple studio productions. Uniquely, sQ 2000 supports integrated editing with no delays due to media movement and without the cost of dupli-cating assets or storage. Highlights packages and instant replays get to air faster, and system design is dramatically simplified.

Built without compromise — the most powerful production server on the marketsQ 2000 provides an unrivaled channel count in a compact chassis. It provides 12 channels of UHD or 24 channels of 3G/HD in a single 3 RU mainframe. This high density, combined with sQ 2000’s ability to handle any format without any external conversion, results in significant cost, space and power savings. This also means you don’t have to make com-promises to your UHD workflows: no more channel count or processing limitations in UHD!

Each sQ 2000 I/O card can support either IP or SDI, providing flexible I/O profiles for demanding multiformat live productions. Each I/O card offers a dual redundant 100G IP interface for superior connectivity for SMPTE ST 2110 or 2022-7, enabling unique I/O configurations and headroom to expand even further in the future. The I/O card also features 12 compact HD-SDI connections, which are all 12G UHD capable. sQ 2000 is the most advanced, high-performance video server on the market today.

sQ 2000 also features ultra-flexible HDR support of up to 24 channels of 1080p or 12 channels of UHD in Rec. 2020. sQ 2000 can also seamlessly handle mixed SDR and HDR inputs and achieve dynamic normalization on output. Many live and sports productions require multiple deliverables in dif-ferent resolutions and color spaces — sQ 2000 is the perfect live production solution in a mixed environment allowing ultimate flexibility.

Production Zones provide resilient scalingsQ 2000 Servers can be configured into resilient production units, called Zones. A Zone may be built of one or more sQ 2000 servers, to provide scal ing of ingest and output ports, bandwidth to support editing workstations and video storage capacity.

A Zone is managed by a resilient management unit we call an ISA (integrated server architecture) Manager, which is a Windows application running on a dedicated pair of resilient servers.

Production systems requiring extensive video handling may be constructed with multiple Zones for additional resilience. Communications between the ISA Managers ensures that users have access to all content across the Zones.

A scaled solution requires both broadcast-quality files and an associated proxy (H.264) to be created simultaneously and managed as strictly and carefully as the synchronization between pictures and sound. This is a key function of the sQ 2000 and the associated ISA Manager — both qualities of media are guaranteed to remain locked together. An editing selection made in one is instantly and automatically conformed in the other.

The sQ 2000 lays down the media on the RAID storage, with every frame (or group of frames) identifiable. This is the key to the speed of editing provided by Grass Valley’s editors.

More content produced, quickerBecause seconds matter in live production events, sQ 2000 features a 10G/25G, fast inter-server network called ClipNet, which allows any feed to be made available to any server instantaneously. This allows editors to quickly select the footage they need to deliver content faster.

Moreover, sQ 2000 uses Grass Valley’s unique FrameMagic technology, giving every frame on the system a unique identity. As editors save or publish clips and edits, they appear instantly on the system as a unique asset. This is not a duplicate file. Instead, metadata markers describe which sequence of frames comprise the asset. This allows the same frame sequence to be instantly displayed and used in the shared clips library or edit timeline. Edi-tors and control room operators have instant access to the same media.

FileFlow 4.0 — File exchange between IT infrastructure and sQ 2000FileFlow4 is a media processing and orchestration platform that makes media workflows to and from sQ 2000 fast and effortless. The FileFlow

Manager provides an easy-to-use web interface to configure and monitor file transfers, while FileFlow Engines process media transfers faster than real time. Deliver the same content to multiple destinations with powerful processing and easy configuration. FileFlow4 scales to satisfy any size of live production by adding more processing engines.

FileFlow automatically exports to a wide variety of file formats/codecs directly from sQ 2000 using either transwrapping or transcoding. Providing ultra-fast turnaround workflows. sQ 2000 FileFlow can access growing files to begin transcoding after just a few frames of ingest for fastest delivery times. FileFlow4 works seamlessly with HD, 1080p, UHD and HDR content, meeting the demands of any live production use case.

To simplify content sharing. FileFlow’s HTML5 management UI provides unified control of the media workflow through a standard web browser. Auto- mation with rules creation, job monitoring, and configuration are all accessed in one place. Operators can quickly create rules for automated file delivery in multiple formats that enable fast delivery to social media, archive and other network storage, and third-party editors.
