Powerful Learning Practice (PLP)f2f Celebration
Where are you on the developmental continuum for 21st Century teaching and learning- on a “know nothing” to “know everything” scale? (Please place your vote on chart)
1. NewbieA newcomer to cyberspace, Web 2.0 and/or social networking.
2. ExplorerWilling to try a few new things, ask questions, and starting to gain an awareness around using blogs, wikis, podcasts, and vidcasts in instruction. You have possibly joined a listserv and are sharing ideas with other teachers.
3. Path FinderYou or your students have created a blogs, wiki, or podcast. Some of your teaching is delivered in a student centered, inquiry-based format. You are reading articles/books about how to use Web 2.0 tools with your students. You understand the term digital native.
4. Power UserYou blog and teach others how to blog. You use flickr, RSS, del.icio.us, and a wiki regularly. You can give at least three traits of a netgener and confusion and chaos do not bother you anymore. You regularly use project/problem based teaching in your classroom.

F2F- Launch Elluminate NING
Create a sense of urgency, build community, whet appetites.
Live meetings where 50 + meet, listen and then reflect in small groups.
VLC where we deepen understanding, network, and share resources.
Purpose:A virtual community designed to help participants gain an understanding of the transformative potential of Web 2.0 tools in a global perspective and context, and how those potentials can be translated into classroom practice in Western NY schools.
-20 schools (teams of 5)-Each team has a leader-20 Fellows to support the work-2 f2f meetings -4 live curriculum sessions-Ongoing collaboration in VLC-Pre/Post evaluation-Development of 3-5 year plans

Pedagogy: An understanding of the shifting learningliteracies that the 21 Century demands and how thoseliteracies are being taught by trail-blazingteachers who are already using the technologiesin their classrooms.
Connections: The development of sustained professional learning networks for team members to begin experimenting and sharing with other team members and online colleagues from around the world.
Sustainability: The creation of long term plans tomove the vision forward in participating districts atthe end of the program.
Capacity: An increase in the abilities and resourcesof individuals, teams and the community tomanage change.

Professional Learning Communities
The driving engine of the collaborative culture of a PLC is the team. They work together in an ongoing effort to discover best practices and to expand their professional expertise.
PLCs are our best hope for reculturing schools. We want to focus on shifting from a culture of teacher isolation to a culture of deep and meaningful collaboration.

Powerful Learning Practice Team Activity
1. Individually- Write at least 3-5 assumptions you have about how you will operate as a 21st Century Learning team this year and any goals you have for the year as a team. 5 min.
2. Place all the cards in the center of the table: Stack and shuffle.
3. In turn, each team member picks a card to read aloud to the table. Engage in dialogue and discussion about the assumptions. 15 min.
