Accio Energy’s wind system is the first turbine-free wind power technology ever developed. It will efficiently take advantage of massive offshore wind resources with load following wind characteristics that naturally align with demand. The system is visually unobtrusive and has a better capacity factor than existing turbine-based solutions, allowing it to circumvent many of the problems associated with typical wind installations. Due to its modular design and manufacturing profile, this disruptive solution can eliminate up to 50% of the cost of offshore wind farms and ultimately achieve unsubsidized cost parity with U.S. coal and natural gas plants. At projected rates, this would be the lowest cost option for much of the rest of the world, especially the 40% of the population living within 65 miles of shoreline.

With the right resources, this technology has the potential to completely disrupt the existing global utility-scale wind power industry and realize a significant share of the eventual $100B offshore wind market.

Technology: Accio Energy’s electrohydrodynamic system generates electricity using wind and charged water mist. As wind moves the charged water mist, positive and negative charges are separated and high-voltage, direct current electrical power is created. The engine itself has no moving parts and consists of wind-permeable flat panels composed primarily of mass-produced tubes that can be combined into arrays. The system can be scaled from kilowatt to gigawatt arrays that are modular, easily transported, and cost effective.

Team: Accio Energy’s management team is led by Jen Baird (CEO) and Dawn White (CTO). With previous firms, they have raised over $60M in VC and contract R&D funding as well as achieved a recent $205M exit at 10x revenue and 5-6x return for investors. The Board of Directors includes the retired COO of DTE Energy and multiple experienced investors. Accio’s world class technical team is comprised of master engineers, physicists and technicians having backgrounds that include the U.S. Army, General Electric and Ford, among others. This team is a strong blend of thought leaders in the wind energy

space and engineers with extensive hands-on utility installation and fieldwork. The team has built a strong global intellectual property portfolio and they are the only team globally to ever achieve commercially compelling results with this technology. Funding Opportunity: Field ready now, Accio is seeking $6M to enable a 10kW offshore pilot leading to commercial launch of these radically different renewable power generation systems. Once product development is completed, our plan is to leverage cost-effective automotive-heritage manufacturing to build a first 100MW OEM plant with associated supply base. This first plant alone will generate $270M of revenue annually by 2020, which with a modest 5X revenue multiple would yield a $1.3B valuation.
