TAMIL NADU INNOVATION GRAND CHALLENGE (TNIGC)– 2018

EVENT DETAILS:

The Tamil Nadu Innovation Grand Challenge – TNIGC -2018 is an initiative

taken by the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII) -

Tamil Nadu, with a target to promote innovation and Startup culture within

the state.

TNIGC 2018 comprises of a series of events, the first of which, is SPRINT,

through which we have invited applications from young, promising startups

from different regions of the country. Out of 82 applications, 25 Startups have

been shortlisted in accordance & pertaining to the Rules and Regulations of the

event and taking Innovation Factor into account.

Of the 25 Startups selected for SPRINT, 21 registered their participation on

the day of the event.

TNIGC – JURY has evaluated the Final Pitches made by the Startups with the following

criteria.

1. Validation - What is the value proposition to the customers? How well does the

team understand their customers and their needs? Whether they have done

their surveys and research?

2. Execution & Design – What is their approach? Who has the required skills and

will be responsible for specific steps to build their intended goal?

3. Implementation & Prototype – Have they established a ‘Minimal Value

Product’? Is the MVP designed well and appropriately positioned for the right

markets? Did the group have a solution to a worthy problem or did they have a

working demo.

TNIGC 2018 comprises of three events – SPRINT, BOOTCAMP and PITCHFEST.

Sprint Hackathon, which was held on 15th-17th February,2019, surpassed the

expectations and out of the 21 participating Startups, 13 Startups showed

immense promise and were selected for Bootcamp , 2 of which, gained direct

access to Pitchfest. Bootcamp was held with the objective of providing

preparatory time and training, to put forth their best pitches on Pitchfest.

Th.Jayakumar, Akira Consulting, gave a detailed speech on Incorporation of the

Company, Organizational Structure and Legal aspects of it, and also shared few of

the experiences of his clients, explaining the solutions that could be followed

through , thereby solving a wide variety of problems that startups’ face.


Th.Praveen Dorna, Co-Founder, Startup Byte – from Hyderabad, offered his insights

into Lean Startups, Product Testing and Marketing Analysis throughout his session.

Post lunch, the participating startups got together for a group exercise that gives a

detailed tabulated experience of how to test your startup ideas and products.



Tmt. Meera Shiva, Rana Investment Advisors, took the stage bringing all the

startups closer with her interactive one to one sessions, providing her expertise and

valuable final-minute inputs.

Sprint and Bootcamp are events that Shortlist, Train and Elevate the Startups

to bring about their best Final Pitch for the PITCHFEST event, which was held

on 24.02.2019 (Sunday). The winning startups will be awarded a grant of

RESULTS – Honouring the decisions made by the JURY, EDII-TN has

awarded Five Startups with a grant of Rs.5,00,000/- each.

TNIGC Winners:

Special Award to TAN90 – The Jury felt that their startup is mature and that the seed

money of Rs.5,00,000/- will not be required for them. They will be supported and

assisted through TANSIM Policy 2018-23
