Powercrete J is a 100% Solids Epoxy used for corrosion and abrasion protection. This coating is applied over clean, baresteel and adjacent plant applied or mainline coatings. The application is fast and easy. Simply follow these guidelines.

    1. The 2-componentepoxy coating issupplied in pre-measured kits. Part A(large container) is theBase and Part B(small container) is thecuring agent.

    2. The Application Kitcontains a mask, WetFilm Gauge, Gloves, trowels, a PE stir stick, and abrasive paper.

    3. Insure that surfacesare clean of grease, oil, salts and othercontaminants. Ifnecessary, use

Acetone, MEK or othersuitable solvent.Perform cleaning whenpipe is 3C (5F)above dew point.

    4. Blast cleansurfaces to a nearwhite ISO-8501, NACE

No. 2, SA-21/2(SSPC-SP 10) orbetter using particleblasting (sand or other).Sweep blast adjacentFBE or CTE coating.50 mm (2") to eitherside of cutback (thebare steel area)

    5. A 2.5-4 mil (63.5-

101.6 micron) surfaceprofile with sharpangularity. Burnishingor polishing must beavoided. Surfacepreparation can becontrolled using surfaceprofile tape. Dry surfaceand insure ideal surfacepreparation.

    6. While not always

necessary, preheatingcan be useful justprior to application.

    A. To eliminatemoisture, preheat thecutback area toapproximately 40C(104F).B. To accelerate curing, preheat the cutbackarea to approximately90C (194F).

    7. Warm parts A & Bto 20C (68F) andmix by pouring all ofpart B into part A.Thoroughly scrapecontainer and lid of B.Slowly begin mixing toavoid introducing airinto the mixture.

    8. Use a mixing speedthat uniformly blends the2 parts, but does notcreate a vortex in themixture or spillage.

Note: Between 20C (68F) & 40C (105F), mix for 2 - 3 minutes with a drill mixing paddle or 4 - 5 minutes with the stir stick. Blend bothparts to create a uniform color with no streaks.

    9. Reconfirm that theapplicationtemperature is above10C (50F)* & 3C(5F)* above the dewpoint. Then slowlypour mixed epoxy ontopipe. See Tipsbelow for additional

    suggestions.

    10. Use trowels, brush or roller to applyrequired minimumthickness of coating tothe Field Joint. Coverat least 50mm (2) ofthe adjacent mainline

    coating.

    11. Use a Wet Filmgauge to measure thatthe desired minimumthickness has beenachieved. Double

check around the weldto insure minimumdesired thickness.

    12. The curing rate*will vary according topipe and ambientapplicationtemperature.Refer to curing rate

chart to determinewhen to perform aShore D check.

Tip: Masking tape may be applied to left & right 50mm (2) beyond cutback (see dotted lines) and later removed while the coating is stilltacky to create a straight edge and neat appearance

*Note: Powercrete J may be applied and cured at colder environmental temperatures if the pipe is heated during the application and cure..

    Storage

For optimum performance, store Powercrete Epoxy products in a dry, well-ventilated area. Maintain products in original packaging andsealed until just before use. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, rain, snow, dust or other adverse environmental conditions or contaminates.

NOTE: Avoid prolonged storage at temperatures above 40C (104F) or below 5C (40F).
