Initial Electrical Plans: Custom Engineering Solutions performs an evaluation of the existing electrical system. CEngS will document system weak points, switching operations, loading, and any capital improvements. Some examples are:

Distribution system: This study will analysis loads in a specific area. It will include circuit loading, distribution station, coordination study, and recommended solution. This study identifies distribution system opportunities and possible switch points. It will also documents contingency planning. Transmission System: This includes identifies the existing transmission system. It will identify the best location to create a feed into the existing infrastructure. Economical analysis: Custom Engineering Solutions provides our clients with cost analysis based on the client’s carrying charge and present worth analysis.

Initial site evaluation: Custom Engineering Solutions will utilize the existing maps and field visits to identify possible locations as to the electrical needs. These include existing roadways, gas lines, transmission and distribution facilities, property and topo maps. Custom Engineering Solutions will utilize field information for initial budgeting and scope documentation of the project.

Identifying study area: Custom Engineering Solutions and the client, based on initial planning studies, will determine the project area. At this point, the area can be flown for Arial photo of the study area. Arial analysis: Custom Engineering Solutions utilizes contact prints to identify possible routes and sites for electrical facilities. On average, there will be three to four alternate routes and sites for a project. Based on the alternatives, CEngS will gather all the local regulations, local landscape, cultural values, and visual impact of each alternative. Site & Route Selection: Custom Engineering Solutions conducts and documents the limits and opportunities of each alternative. CEngS, also, documents the risk factors associated with particular alternative. CEngS objective is to minimize the impact to the local culture. At this stage, CEngS provides its client with budget and scope of a particular project. Local Communication: Custom Engineering Solutions informs the local government of the pending facilities and its impact. Based on local government input, CEngS will begin informing the public of the project and its value to them. This is accomplished either through mail or local meetings. Our client and their knowledge of the locals dictate local communication. Land Rights: Custom Engineering Solutions will not contact any landowner without our client knowledge. Custom Engineering Solutions utilizes local resources to gain land rights for our clients.

Protection: Custom Engineering Solutions recommends a protective scheme based on available fault current, coordination with other equipment, existing utility practices, client risk tolerance, and safety issues. CEngS creates a single line that will out line the physical and electrical control requirements. Physical Design: Custom Engineering Solutions provides different substation layouts to our client. After determining the fenced size, CEngS contracts with local survey crews to study the existing topography and grading of the facility. At the same time, the transmission facility centerline will be created to allow the pole locations be determined. At this stage, equipment specifications are written and solicitation for major equipment will began. Some examples are transformers, poles, switches, and breakers. Control design: Custom Engineering Solutions engineers design the control scheme based on the single line. Based on client need, CEngS either orders the protection scheme from a manufacturer or can customize and fabricate the equipment internally. Our control design includes three line, elementary, and wiring diagrams for the facility. CEngS will create specifications and either solicit quotes or internally built the panels or housing for our client.

Civil Engineering

Transmission Lines: CEngS will utilize PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE (Wood, Concrete, & Steel), which are all an industry standards to design your transmission needs. Our Engineers have more than 20 years of design & field experience. Our Engineers can provide Pole designs for your particular area. By using PLS-CADD, you are assured that the latest NESC & RUS rules and regulations are followed at minimum. Our experienced engineers and operators have extensive knowledge of the most complicated designs whether your project is located in the city limits topography, in the mountains, or in the country. Custom Engineering Solutions’ engineers and operators have been trained and licensed directly by Power Line Systems (PLS) and currently holds multi-license agreements with PLS. Distribution Lines: CEngS can design your single and multi circuit distribution by either the staking methods or more precise methods by using PLS-CADD & PLS-POLE. For those utilities sensitive to high winds and icing, PLS-CAD will allow the design to take out any guess work in order not to under or over built the line. CEngS has created hundreds of framings in PLS-POLE for a more precise design. We can built you line with the same criteria's as any transmission designs. Civil Designs: This will include structural, foundation, erosion control, oil containment as well as grading design and hydrology studies. We will utilize our knowledgeable staff to maximize your benefit and minimize your cost. We can also will evaluate any local resources in order to secure the most efficient resources for your project. Environmental Survey: Custom Engineering Solutions can provide our clients with existing area and quad maps to define study area as well as identifying project constraints. During several field visits with our clients, Custom Engineering Solutions will identify area opportunities and limitation. We will utilize biological, historical and archeological contractors as necessary. CEngS documents all the issues that affect the project and its recommended solution. Land activities will only begin with our client's full support and understanding. Construction Management: Custom Engineering Solutions will use internal staff for any and all inspection resources to conduct construction audits to assure construction quality on substations, transmission and distribution projects. Students will learn single lines, protection schemes, transformers, and safety issues. Students will also gain an in depth understanding of electrical components in an electrical substation and lines. CEngS can customize its operational training on your system based on your components.
