Whole-House Automatic Transfer Switch - Used when the generator is sized to power the whole house during a power failure. The transfer switch and generator switch are wired directly into the main distribution panel. Available for 100 or 200 Amp service with either indoor or outdoor NEMA approved enclosures. One 200 Amp model is available with service disconnect and NEMA approved outdoor enclosure. Includes digital controller.Essential Loads Automatic Transfer Switch - Allows the customer to determine the most important loads. Only those specific loads will be powered by the generator during an outage. The specified loads are wired through an included secondary distribution panel and in turn through the automatic transfer switch and the generator. Available in 100 or 200 Amp service with either indoor or outdoor NEMA approved enclosures. Includes digital controller.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENTNOTE - Lennox transfer switch is required. The transfer switch you select should match the maximum continuous wattage rating of your generator.

Interactive sizing tool is available on lennox.com or on Lennox DaveNet.Generator size will depend on the power (wattage) requirements of the home and what the homeowner wants powered during an outage.Some appliances with electric motors (refrigeration, air conditioners), require up to 2 to 3 times the listed wattage.Also, additional capacity allows more circuits to be addedfor future use.A home standby generator is limited in power output directly related to the engine horsepower. The amount of power that a generator can produce is rated in watts.Rated power is less than peak power as certain components lose efficiency as they are heated from use.The rated output of the generator must match the maximum anticipated power to be used.There is no substitute for having a licensed electrician perform an inspection and calculate the power requirements. The guidelines below offer some general information on sizing generators.
1. To determine wattage requirements; determine which devices need to be powered simultaneously and what the starting requirements are. Make a list of the items that eed to be powered by the generator. Estimate the highest demand that will be put on the generator under the “worst-case” conditions. Identify the wattage requirements for the tools and appliances expected to operate. The power requirement for the tool or appliance can be found on its identification plate or in the Owner’s Manual. If neither is available, the Typical Power Requirements Worksheet on the following page can be used to estimate the power requirement.2. To operate devices that use electric motors, list both the starting and running requirements of each. Starting requirements of some devices may be significantly higher than their running requirements. This higher demand must be considered when estimating power needs. Some small, universal motors - which do not draw a heavy starting load (drills, small saws, blenders, etc.) - require very little extra current for starting.3. Add up the required watts of all the tools and appliances expected to operate simultaneously.4. Once an accurate list of what will be operating during an outage is compiled, calculate the maximum power requirements.5. To calculate the required size of the generator, add up all of the running watts and all of the starting watts. Compare the total running watts to the standby ratings for the correct fuel source and compare the total starting watts to the peak motor starting capability of the alternator for each model.
FormulasIf necessary, use these formulas:
Watts = Amps x VoltsRunning Watts* = Horsepower x 746
Footnotes:*Running Watts is the amount of power a motor consumes once it has started to run at normal speed.
Considerations• The generator output is dependent upon whether it is connected to Natural Gas or LPG/Propane. Ensure the rated output is correct for the fuel being used.
• Some appliances need a “surge” of energy when starting. This means that the amount of electrical power needed to start the appliance may exceed the amount needed to maintain its use.
• Electrical loads such as incandescent lamps and hot plates require the same wattage to start as is needed to maintain use.
• Loads such as fluorescent lamps require 2 to 3 times the indicated wattage during start-up.
• Loads for mercury lamps require 2 to 3 times the indicated wattage during start-up.
• Electrical motors require a large starting current. Power requirements depend on the type of motor and its use. Once enough “surge” is attained to start the motor, the appliance will require only 50% to 30% of the wattage to continue running.
• Most electrical tools require 2 to 3 times their wattage for running under load during use.
• Loads such as submersible pumps, air conditioners and air compressors require a very large force to start. They need 3 to 5 times the normal running wattage in order to start.
