Parkland Hospital – Dallas, TX
Parkland Health and Hospital is one of the largest hospital construction projects in the U.S. with a 2.5 million square foot campus that includes 862 single patient rooms.
Challenge

• The campus’ key design goals focused on creating a sustainable community resource with a low carbon footprint and high energy efficiencies. The critical backup power systems will be supporting both the new data center and imaging center.
• To meet its requirements, Parkland chose to deploy seven Active Power CleanSource® UPS systems totaling 21 flywheels to ensure 100 percent uptime to its most mission critical operations.
• Active Power’s UPS incorporates all of Parkland’s power protection requirements into a single solution – efficiency, reliability, green, and low total cost of ownership. The systems will also help enable the hospital in part to earn U.S. Green Building Council LEED Silver certification.

• A power outage would cost UMC Utrecht an estimated $330,000 dollars per day on average. Because of these risks, the hospital required a reliable critical backup power solution for their information technology infrastructure.
• UMC Utrecht chose to deploy two Active Power CleanSource® 500 kVA UPS systems to protect the hospital from short term power disturbances. Facility engineers needed a reliable UPS to bridge the gap between utility feed and on-site backup generators during power outages.
• Since installation, the hospital has maintained 100 percent uptime, ensuring healthcare professionals and researchers have 24x7 access to medical records and critical patient data.
"We needed a trustworthy backup power system to protect the hospital from electrical interruption. The main reason we selected Active Power was the reliability of their UPS products.”

• Sustainability and reliability were at the core of the facility’s electrical designs for its new data center supporting Metro Health Village. The hospital was also keen on earning LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
• To begin earning points towards LEED recognition, Metro Health Hospital chose to install two CleanSource® 300 kVA UPS systems due to the system’s high energy efficiency, low CO2 footprint, and reliability.
• Metro Health Hospital achieved LEED certification making it one of only a handful of hospitals in the U.S. earning this certification as it promotes a whole building approach to sustainability even within its electrical infrastructure.
