Your best companion for Grid Code compliance
Solution at a glance
Fully integrated in Conext™ Advisor 2 (CA2) the Power Plant Controller (PPC) is designed, provided and implemented by Schneider Electric Solar Business.
The PPC is a dynamic system that commands SmartGen inverters and other compensation devices to fulfill the Grid Code and any Grid Utility requirements regarding active and reactive power control.
The PPC is designed to get a fast and accurate response at the Point of Connection of the PV plant, and notably for the large Utility-scale PV plants, from few MW to hundreds of MW.
The PPC offers the following functions:• Embedded reactive power operating modes• Embedded active power operating modes
In hybrid power networks, the PPC controls the generating resources to maximize the economical/profitable power source while ensuring load stability.

Active power operating modes
Active power curtailment Frequency control
For several reasons, like overload of the lines, excess of intermittent energy production, the Grid Utility may request to curtail the production. This kind of feature is presented in below figure. Active power curtailment can be applied with or without ramp rate control.
During an over-frequency event the PPC can quickly decrease the active power injection at POC proportionally to the frequency deviation.
Several control loops are implemented into the PPC to reach an accurate control of the power
and the voltage at the Point of Connection (POC) of the PV plant.
Maintains the grid voltage to the reference voltage at the POC by suppling or absorbing reactive power. The voltage control can be set without any droop or with a droop (between 0% and 10%).
Maintains a fix reactive power exchange at the POC, whatever the grid voltage and the PV plant production.
Maintains a constant Power Factor at the POC, whatever the grid voltage or the losses in the transformers of the PV plant.

During an under-frequency event and when an active power limitation is in progress the PPC for PV plant can partially or fully release the active power limitation in order to participate to grid stability.

Designed for regular PV plants. It provides the basic control loop functions mentioned above. These functions can be set with the predefined parameters to meet the Grid Utility requirements of most PV plant projects.
Designed for large PV plants, challenging Grid Codes, or customer requests. It provides the basic control loop functions, and on request additional or more advanced functions depending of the PV plant specific needs.
PPC Universal PPC Evolution
PPC universal is integrated in the Gridbox main controller of ConextTM Advisor 2, therefore no additional controller is required.
To improve the response time of the PPC, the hardware and software architecture of the PPC Evolution includes an additional controller located in CA2 grid cabinet.
