More than a Standard
The Continua Design Guidelines (CDG) define a framework of underlying standards and criteria required to ensure the interoperability of components used for applications monitoring personal health and wellness.
They also contain design guidelines that further clarify the underlying standards or specifications by reducing options or by adding a missing feature to improve interoperability
NOTE: we also fix the underlying standards (e.g., Bluetooth handling of time, pairing, connection, security)

5G & Healthcare
• Ericsson released a report in June on the critical role of 5G in healthcare transformation
• Key findings:• Healthcare becomes decentralized• moving from hospitals towards homes• patient data is centralized• turning hospitals into data centres
• Increasing dependence on wearables and remote treatments makes 5G essential to provide reliable and secure services.

5G & Healthcare - Challenges
• The advent of 5G-enabled devices raises a familiar challenge• Bluetooth LE -> transcoding to 11073 via gateway• Gateway uploads PCD-01 via secure services interface
• With an added twist• There is likely no gateway to transcode | upload• There is likely no TCP/IP or HTTP• Efficiency requirements limiting data model

• Now is the time to ensure a strong foundation is built upon• Reduce (eliminate?) fragmentation• Drive interoperability by design

Continua certified products bear the globally recognized Continua logo, which signals market-readiness for 21st century health data exchange. The Guidelines are recognized as an international standard by the United Nations’ International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T) and available for free in six languages.
