Work is a force times a distanceI do the same work if it takes me 1 minute to

walk up a flight of stairs or 1 day to walk up a flight of stairs

Because work has nothing to do with time!

Power

Power is the rate at which work is donePower = the amount of work done on an

object in a unit of time

Another Way of Thinking

An object that has more power than another object does more work in the same amount of time

Work is measured in Joules (J)Time is measured in seconds (s)Power is a rate of J/s

We call this a watt (W) Horsepower is not an SI unit, however 746 watts = 1
