Background

• City Council requested a plan for Universal PreK in Fall 2013

• Mayor’s Action Plan for Seattle Preschool Program was approved June 2014

• Voters passed Prop 1B in November 2014• Seattle Preschool Program Implementation

Eligibility Criteria

Currently Eligible SPP Providers

• School or center-based preschool• Licensed by the WA state Department of Early

Learning (or exempt from licensing)• A participant in the Washington State Early

Achievers (EA) system and holds EA rating of 3 or higher

• 2 Full-day (6 hour) preschool classrooms– Could be at one or more sites– Could be a partnership of multiple providers

SPP Provider Benefits

• Funds and supports to raise the quality of your preschool program

• Provide preschool services to children of all income levels• Access City funds for teachers to complete their degrees

in Early Childhood Education• Receive funds to pay teachers competitive rates• Training for all staff in research, play-based curricula• In-class coaching for all teaching staff• Free or affordable tuition rates for families• Plus more!

Additional Funds

• Special population funds are determined on a case-by-case, as-needed basis.

• Providers can apply for funds for family engagement activities (up to $786 for the 2015-2016 school year).

• Professional development for curriculum, ongoing training, and coaching is organized, provided, and funded by the City.

Blending and Braiding Funds

• ECEAP, Step Ahead, and Head Start classrooms ARE eligible to apply

• Funded at a rate that will allow the City to blend funds AND allow providers to complete additional requirements of other programs

State and Region X
