Project Description
AssignmentDesign a poster for a movie of your own making. You can create a movie based on your character, or you can do something new. You come up with the title, the genre, theme, storyline, cast and crew. You will make the logotype for the title in Illustrator and import it into Photoshop and the illustration and credits will be done in Photo-shop.
Story ConceptI was in the date between Halloween and Thanksgiving so It inspired me to make this poster resemble the two holidays, and its a horror movie hence the name Thanks Kill-ing. Its about typical teenagers getting in danger with an old house haunted by a spirit witch. I will explain the story in the research section.
Poster Design Concept Illustration: I posted the photographs I used, I havent done any sketches just two photographs and edit them together on Photoshop.
Logo: Ive made two versions of it and showed which one I chosed and why I chosed the logotype.
Research
DescriptionFor my movie poster idea I first
thought of the name Thanks Kill-
ing and figured it should be like a
Halloween/Thanksgiving kind of
movie about teenagers getting into
trouble, similar to Cabin in the
woods. Except in my movie idea
this is a Thanksgiving theme, where
a group of teenagers decided to
have a Thanksgiving dinner af-
ter they graduated, but to make it
memorial they planned on having
the Thanksgiving dinner at an old
house. Little did they know that
house is haunted by some old witch who liked to feast on their visitors
on every Thanksgiving. So that’s
where you get the idea on what I’m
working.Picture of Cabin In the Woods
Logotype
Rough (bottom)The first few fonts I made were fine but it didn’t called the attention when I placed it on my poster. I could just used the ef-fects but it didn’t seem to pop. I pre-ferred the top one because it was more creative. I’ll explain in the next para-graph. Final (Top)Being a horror/Thanksgiving theme I made the two words different, one be-ing friendly and the other horror. I made “Thanks” more friendly and a script font to give a sense that its Thanks giving. As for color fonts I used a bit of yellow for “Thanks” since Yellow/Orange rep-resents Thanks giving, and then added a little effects to make the text look a little realistic. And as for “Killing” I made it look seri-ous and cold to represent horror, I added a white glow to make the text pop. No-ticing it doesn’t look very friendly for a Thanksgiving dinner-its horror hence the
name Thanks Killing.

Illustration
RoughsHere are the layers of my poster. I have them seperate and labeled so it can be easier for me to come back and make ad-justments. I used gradients and color fills for the color. I have a “T” layer for my T in “Thanks” I made the T larger than the lower case.
Illustration
RoughHere are the two photographs I took before I used them on my poster in Pho-toshop. I used Levels panel to tone the skelliton and house together because the color tone didnt seemed balanced and from there I used color fills and gradient fills to give it color. I didnt had space on the bottom but since the bottom picture was dark using the tones, I added a black rectangle to make the bottom image big-ger to fit my credits on the bottom and it worked out really well.
Final Poster
AnalysisAnd now for the final project, I am suc-cessful how everything worked out. I’ve accomplished to fit my credits and mess with the colors using a gradient fill. The logotype came out great. If I had enough time I wouldn’t change anything really, I like how it looks in blue but it doesn’t give that Thanksgiving feel, so I decided to leave it how it is.
What I LearnedOverall I learned I must have patience on my projects, without patience how would I have time to learn new skills to improve my poster. It has helped me improve and learning the basics of Photoshop. It made me learn how easy it is to do anything here and most importantly having fun with effort.
