The position is for 12 months and opens from January 2019. The program will include fine-tuning of new methods for organic synthesis and their application towards the construction of molecular diversity – both for advancing synthesis and providing semi- conducting polymers (relevant compound for new material industry). The ambition of the project is to extend the array of methods to deliver the benzocyclobutene system. The custom-made benzocyclobutenes, synthesized thanks to this novel approach, will thereafter be used as monomers in a controlled radical polymerization process. A subsequent step should deliver a well-defined π-conjugated system offering semi-conducting properties. The controlled synthesis of these materials should deliver a technical advantage to develop new electronic devices, in particular for organic LED. Experience in radical chemistry and/or polymerisation will be appreciated but not necessary if the candidate knows how to integrate a team and has the enthusiasm and willingness to learn every day.
