Twisdraai Colliery Thubelisha Shaft

The Colliery Shaft has started production in 2012. in August 2009, MCS was given the opportunity by Grinaker and Sasol to do the consolidation of the Port Hole and High Wall. Due to heavy rains that season, slope consolidation was necessary to secure the slope. This was done by using self drilling anchors (Soil Nails) with silicate resin injected under high pressure. Thereafter the high wall above the port hole and the arch was consolidated. We continued with a 10m advance consolidation. Here we installed mechanical anchors and Oslo straps.

The whole Decline was Shotcreted (Wetcrete) all the way from surface, down to follow behind the surface. At the joint between the coal and the burnt coal, consolidation was done for the whole circumference of the tunnel for an estimated 80 meters, using spiral rods and injected with resin. Installation of preformed sets was done and void filled with resin foam.
