MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Hello Residents and Readers Welcome to this edition of Council Comments for the end of July 2018. The community are advised that submissions and comments to the
new format of Council Comments that recently closed were considered by Council at its Council meeting on 25th of July 2018. In this regard
Council decided to continue with this new format based on the submissions received where the majority of these comments favoured the new
format.
As usual this section of Council Comments is intended to provide a snapshot of the issues discussed at Councils Ordinary Meetings that are
held at the end of the month. The regular editions of Council Comments are also intended to inform the community of some of the matters
effecting Council that may have either happened between the monthly Council meetings or at the meetings. For the information of the
community the unconfirmed minutes of Council Meetings are placed on the Council website as soon as possible within the prescribed time
limit whereby they are confirmed at the next scheduled Council Meeting. Furthermore items listed on the agenda when published for the
community may not include all the items that were discussed at the Council Meeting, as provision is made for councillors and/or staff to
introduce late items for consideration as permitted by legislation and Councils Standing Orders. The following resolutions are only an extract

meeting of Council.

Dear Residents of Mount Magnet,
The month of July 2018 has seen an increase in town numbers due to upcoming events. Many of these people visit short term and tend to overcrowd local family homes sometimes resulting in anti-social issues and police attention. Unfortunately local police workload has suddenly increased from what have been a relatively quiet few months. We urge people to be respectful during these periods of ‘sorry business’ and mourning. In the month of July and to date we have charged 18 persons with a range of offences that include disorderly offences, damages, assaults and drug matters. Of significance was a recent drug operation where police utilised the assistance of a drug detection dog. Police executed a number of drug search warrants to target drug dealing and drug use in Mt Magnet and Meekatharra, a number of persons were charged with sell/supply cannabis and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Your police are part of the community and we rely upon community information to address criminal activity, we are always keen to hear from you, anonymous calls included. Your local police can be contacted on 9963222. Police will act on any credible information, drug dealing in particular. Please be aware of the Crimestoppers 1800 333 000. . Locally we promote and advertise our efforts on Twitter, I strongly encourage you all to join our twitter account Mount Magnet Police@MtMagnetPol. This site is linked to the Mid West-Gascoyne District WA Police Facebook page, it is the best forum for the Mt Magnet community to view your local Police activities. Both sites are informative and can provide an accurate oversight of factual information. Geraldton Sporting Aboriginal Corporation now have two locally based employees in Town with plans to offer sporting, recreational activities to the community, youth being their priority focus. From a local police crime prevention, crime diversion perspective there are many obvious expected positive outcomes that flow from such activities, these include increased community harmony, reduce anti-social behaviour, healthy, active and engaged youth. In support of these worthy initiatives local police are working in partnership to support social basketball and Friday afternoon football, these activities are free to all and supported by the Shire, Ramelius Resources and IGA. The Shire of Mount Magnet fogs for mosqui-toes on a regular basis (weather permitting) in the evening. The fogger has a plume of fog trailing from it and makes a distinctive very loud putt putt sound.
Please be mindful of this when you are preparing food or eating.
