CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGEDubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised the 20th Water, Energy, Technology, and EnvironmentExhibition (WETEX 2018) under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage ofHH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of DEWA.WETEX, under the theme ‘At the forefront of sustainability,’ is in line with the vision ofHH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to support a sustainable future and green economy in the UAE, and achieve the goals of the UAE Centennial 2071, UAE Vision 2021, the UAE Green Growth Strategy, Dubai Plan 2021, and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to make Dubai a global hub for clean energy and green economy byproviding 7% of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy by 2020, 25% by 2030, and 75% by 2050
Over the past 20 years, WETEX has achieved great success and positioned itself as one of the largest and mostimportant global exhibitions in the water, environment, and energy sectors. WETEX 2017 covered an area of 70,000 square metres, and attracted 1,950 exhibitors from 50 countries, about 35,000 visitors, and 75 sponsors. WETEX 2018 covered an area of 78,413 square metres with the participation of more than 2,100 exhibitors from 53countries. The exhibition under the theme ‘At the forefront of sustainability’, was organised under the umbrella of Green Week in conjunction with the Dubai Solar Show, the region’s largest solar energy exhibition, covering an area of 14,000 square metres. The show was an important opportunity for companies, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, specialists in solar system installation and storage, developers of solar energy projects according to the independent power producer (IPP) model, research and development institutions, and engineering companies and consultants to view the latest cutting-edge technologies and trends in this promising industry, especially in view of the increased adoption of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology in the UAE and the region in general. WETEX 2018 coincided with the fifth World Green Economy Summit (WGES 2018) which brought together international experts and professionals in green economy, smart cities, innovation, and sustainable development.
We made sure that WETEX 2018 was even more comprehensive by providing specialised halls such as the Innovation Hall, energy halls and companies specialised in electricity, technology, water desalination and treatment solutions. It featured a hall for Green Week activities, a conser-vation stand, and other specialised stands and pavilions for national and international companies.

CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority organised the 3rd Dubai Solar Show, in conjunction with the 20th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2018), under the directives ofHH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of DEWA.
The show is an important platform for public and private sectors to enter into deals and build partnerships, learn about the latest solar power technologies and identify the needs of the market at a time when the Government of Dubai continues to launch big clean and renewable energy projects, to support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to provide 75% of Dubai’s energy from clean sources by 2050. Meeting the clean energy objective requires a capacity of 42,000MW of clean and renewable energy by 2050. One of our most important projects is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, with a total planned capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030 at a total investment of AED 50 billion. Upon completion, the solar park will help reduce over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions per year. Our current photovoltaic (PV) and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Independent Power Producer (IPP) based projects’ capacity will exceed 1,700 MW. We will have an additional 3,300 MW, to reach 5,000 MW by 2030, making it the largest single-site solar park in the world.
Dubai also aims to install solar panels on the roofs of all buildings in Dubai by 2030. DEWA launched Shams Dubai initiative to encourage building owners to install PV panels to generate electricity and connect it to DEWA’s grid. The Dubai Solar Show is a key platform for the public and private sectors to make deals, build partnerships, review the latest solar-energy technologies, learn about current and future projects in the region and market needs, and explore opportunities to take part in solar-energy projects and programmes.
According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, USD 7.4 trillion will be channelled to renewables, equivalent to 72% of the money the world will spend on new power generation over the period to 2040. This confirms the importance of the Dubai Solar Show for companies and organisa-tions to explore the various investment opportu-nities offered by this promising sector.
Organising the show in conjunction with WETEX and the World Green Economy Summit (WGES) was an opportunity to reach thousands of exhibi-tors, participants, officials and decision makers in the UAE, Participants and visitors availed of the busy agendas of the two events which featured conferences, workshops and specialised activities. They also met experts and specialists from around the world to discuss developing solar energy and expanding its adoption in the region to achieve sustainable development and ensure a sustain-able future for us and for generations to come.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al TayerMD & CEO of DEWA and Founderand Chairman of WETEX
As the world’s renewable energy industry continues to rapidly grow particularly SOLAR ENERGY in the MENA region, DEWA was proud to bring forwardthe 3rd edition of Dubai Solar Show, which took place in parallel with WETEX and World Green Economy Summit, from 23 - 25 October 2018 at Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
Objectives of Dubai Solar Show:
1. To bring latest renewable and solar innovations in the region and become a unique platform for knowledge-sharing and building partnerships with all government and private sectors in pursuing innovative solutions while supporting Dubai’s transformation in becoming the smartest city in the world
2. To establish Dubai Solar Show as a gateway of solar business in the region and annual international event attended by solar energy professionals where international exhibitors, buyers and relevant organizations from around the world are gathered
3. To develop a platform in brightening the framework for its solar projects in the region through benchmarking, launching of projects or programs, and assist in the development or implementation of strategies related to solar sector
4. To support in elevating the promotion of ‘sustainability‘ as the main theme and objective of WETEX exhibition wherein solar energy is considered the future of energy.
