My Dad is my role model and I love him. I got to talk to him over dinner and he told me some stuff about him and here it is. Ben: What do you like to do for fun?

Dad: I like to cook with my son, Ben. Just yester-day we made a killer pizza. Ben actually taught me how to make a better pizza dough. Ben: Where is your favorite restaurant?

Dad: I have too many to mention here. Because I cook, I like many different types of food. Ben: What is your job?

Dad: I am a network engineer, but you would probably just call me ”the computer guy”. Ben: Do you like your job?

Dad: Yes. It is interesting because technology is still young and changing every day. Ben: What is your favorite piece of technology?

Dad: My smart phone (BlackBerry). Ben: What pictures do you have on your Black-Berry? Dad: Mostly pictures of cool beaches where we (the family) have gone on vacation. Ben: What music do you have on your Black-Berry? Dad: Mostly old jazz and come classical stuff.

Ben: Who is your favorite musician?

Dad: Three people most of your readers have never heard of: Johann Sebastian Bach, Bela Bar-tok, and John Coltrane. Ben: Where is your favorite vacation place? Dad: Lately, it has been the Caribbean Island of Anguilla, but, I also enjoy the Greek Islands. Ben: What do you like about being a Dad? A Tribute to Dad

My dad is really special to me because he works in Manhattan in a really tall building called The United Nations building. He helps the world. He works in the peacekeeping operations depart-ment. His job title is Senior Political Affairs Officer.

In January, he lost several good friends in the Haiti earthquake. His job is sometimes dangerous. He often travels to Africa to meet with different presi-dents of countries and to help in region stability. One of his big projects is how to prevent Somali pirates from killing people and stealing valuables.

My dad’s job is really cool. He works with sports TV. He is the Senior Coordinating Producer for MSG Networks. He gets to meet and work with famous athletes. Over the years, he has won eight Emmys and has been nominated twice as many times.

Anastasia: What do you think is cool about your job?

Dad: I get to watch sports and TV as my job and I have met many interesting people.

Anastasia: Who did you meet that was your favor-ite famous athlete?

Dad: When I was little, my favorite player was Tom Seaver of the NY Mets. I was lucky enough to not only meet him, but also to work with him and become his friend.

Anastasia: How many years have you been work-ing in sports TV?

Dad: I have been working in sports TV for 25 years.

Anastasia: Where do you work?

Dad: I work in Madison Square Garden in NYC. My office is actually one floor below the surface of the ice and the basketball court.

THE TIGER TIMES

Anastasia: What job did you have before this one?

Dad: I produced the Mets and the Islanders games for 20 years and now I supervise the peo-ple who produce the games.

Anastasia: How did you get this job?

Dad: I wanted to try something new. I had to inter-view with several people and I got the job.

Anastasia: What don’t you like about your job?

Dad: I work a lot of hours; days, nights, weekends and holidays. I miss many things with my family.

Anastasia: If you could have another job, what would it be?

Dad: I would be a novelist...and even though I am getting older and older, I still hope to be one someday!

My dad and his co-workers had to move into a new building because his building is being reno-vated. Now my dad works closer to Grand Cen-tral. My dad also helps me and my brother with some activities, like making my brother’s Pine Wood Derby car for his race at Cub Scouts. Last year my brother won a trophy because he had one of the best cars that was voted by the parents and chil-dren. My dad is special.

The FDNY Firezone

By Julian Tabb (First Grade)

There is a marvelous fire museum in N.Y.C. There is a tour that shows how fires start. For example: a woman put a space heater too close to a blanket, a woman left a pan too long on a gas stove, a teen-ager left a cigarette smoldering on a couch, a man put an extension cord under a rug, two kids played with matches. To find out more go to www.fdnyfirezone.org.

Italy

By Valentina Verde (Third Grade)

I went to Italy for a trip over the summer. My family and I saw Christo-pher Columbus’ house. It was old and dusty and made from stone. I also saw a mannequin that looked like Christopher Columbus, and dressed like him, too. The Italian flag was up.

PineWood Derby

By Petar Janicijevic (Fourth Grade)

I’m a cub scout and every year there’s a PineWood Derby race. All cub scouts make a car to race. The race was scheduled for February 25, 2010, but is now postponed because of bad weather and is going to take place this week. There are two ways to win, by speed or the best design. I want to win the best design, hopefully. Last year, I won a ribbon and the year before I had made 1st place for the best design. I, therefore, have made the car with a surprise design so that I could win this year, too. The car will be fast. I’ll do my best to prepare well for the race.

The Science Birthday Party

by Brendan T. McChain (Second Grade)

The other day, I went to my friend Alex's 8th birthday party. His grandpa is a scien-tist and entertained us with science experiments. The first one was putting your hand on a ball that on the bot-

tom had a conveyer belt that carried little things called electrons. Electrons carry electricity. When Alex put his hand on the ball, his hair started to lift! This happened because the electrons jumped from the ball to Alex's head and caused static electricity. For the next experiment, the scientist had a comb and an object that spinned on a metal stick. He brushed his hair with the comb and put it near the object and the electrons jumped from there and kept on jumping back to each other and made the object follow the comb! Then he did it with a stick and a soda can so that the soda can followed the stick. Then the scientist cooked a hot dog on a stick where a bunch of electrons were running through it. We knew the hot dog was cooked because it puffed up. Only two people volunteered to eat it because it was burnt on the inside. My favorite experiment was when the scientist did the same thing with a pickle! The electrons were running through so fast that the pickle caught on fire on the inside and no one wanted to eat that! Next the scientist had a device with a handle that you had to crank to get a light to turn on. It was really challenging to crank the handle. When it was time to leave, we all got party favors. We got balloons and straws so that we can do some of the same experiments with static and electrons. My favorite favor in the bag was the light up gyro-scope that is like a top. I liked it so much but it broke the first day because I played with it a little too much. Alex is a great friend and I had a blast at his party. I can't wait to see what he is going to do next year!

Movie Review: Alice in Wonderland

By Stanley Plaza (Second Grade)

I just saw the movie “Alice in Wonderland” at the Mamaroneck Playhouse with my family. The movie was based on two books by Lewis Carroll. The books it is based on are Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. These children’s books are very famous. I read Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with my mom a little while ago. Tim Burton directed Alice in Wonderland. He also directed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Some parts of the movie are realistic and some parts are fantasy. It is an adventure movie and it has a lot of action at the end. Johnny Depp played the part of the Mad Hatter. Mia Wasikowska played Alice and Helena Bonham Carter played the Red Queen. Alice is the most real character. In the movie, Alice is 19 years old. She sees a rabbit and she follows it into a hole. She thinks the adventures that she has in Underland (not Wonderland) are just a dream. The Red Queen was mean and she had a big head and she liked big things. The people around her put on fake big body parts. They probably did that so that they wouldn’t get their heads cut off. The Hatter acted a little crazy, but he helped Alice. I liked the Mad Hatter the best. I think an important message in the movie was when the caterpillar said to Alice, “Do not live your life to please others.” It was an important thing for Alice to learn because at home she always got bossed around. If you don’t follow that advice, eve-rybody would control you so you couldn’t make your own decisions, even if you’re a grown-up. I liked the movie very much. My favorite part of the movie was when Alice fought the Jabberwocky. Many things I read were different in the movie, like Alice is really little in the book and in the movie she is 13 years older. I liked the movie better than the book because the book was a little hard for me to understand.

My Favorite Athletes of the

Winter Olympics

By Brennan Hogan (First Grade)

My family and I enjoyed watching the Winter Olympics from Vancou-ver, Canada. My three favorite athletes are: Shaun White, Apolo Ohno, and Lindsey Vonn. Shaun White is 23 years old and is from San Diego, California. He has long red hair and is called “The Flying To-mato.” He has said he does not like that nick-name. He is in his second Olympics in the Half pipe in snowboarding. He does tricks such as flips and twists at the end of each half pipe. He is also a professional skate-boarder. I like him be-cause he is good at turn-ing and flying in the air. He jumps higher and goes faster than anybody. My second favorite ath-lete is Apolo Ohno. He is 27 years old and comes from Seattle Washington. This is his third Winter Olympics and he has won seven Olympic medals so far in the sport of Short Track Speed skating. He has been speed skating since he was 12 years old. I like him because he is a fast skater and almost never gets knocked down or disqualified. My third favorite athlete is Lindsey Vonn. She is

25 years old and lives in Vail, Colorado. She is a skier and this is her third Olympics. Lindsey has been skiing since she was two years old, which is very young to start skiing.

I have a plan for justice! No war. Stop the war in Iraq. Drop your weapons. Make treaties. Don’t kill. Don’t be like Hitler. Be like God. I hope Barack Obama is listening and putting an end to war. Please stop war and make peace in the world! That’s my plan. NO WAR, JUST PEACE!
