How long have you been an estateagent? I have been an estate agent withReeds Rains since 2010.

Why did you become an estate agent,and what inspired you to take therole?

I have always had an interest inproperty sales and lettings, and havebeen fortunate enough to work in theproperty industry since leavinguniversity. I joined Reeds Rains on amanagement programme in 2010 andhave recently taken the role of BranchManager at Formby.

What was the first house you sold?Where was it, and how much did itsell for?

The first property I sold was inWoolton, South Liverpool, on WoodrockRoad. The three bed semi sold for£150,000.

What is the most expensive houseyou have helped to sell?

I have been fortunate enough to workin two very successful branches andhave sold numerous expensiveproperties – in the million-plus category.It does not matter the price category ofthe property – our aim is to sell housesand we are very successful across theboard.

How would you sum up yourapproach to a sale?

It is my role to achieve the bestpossible price for my sellers within theirdesired timeframe. I achieve this byproviding a professional service, being

honest and upfront with our clients.Selling, letting and buying can be

stressful and emotional experiences, sowe treat each customer as an individual,providing advice and guidance whererequired.

Where in the world would your dreamhome be, and what would it look like?

There are some very nice houses inFormby! I would have to go with a castlein Scotland or a vineyard château inFrance given the choice.

How has the industry changed sinceyou began your career?

Early 2000’s we saw house pricesincreasing dramatically, but since 2007this has slowed. This has had a knock-on effect on finances, particularly firsttime buyers. There are always peaks

and troughs in every industry, buteveryone needs somewhere to live.

What advice would you give someonewho was looking for a career as anestate agent?

If possible take an industry relevantqualification – taking the NAEA awarddramatically helped my career. Tosucceed you need a genuine interest insales and lettings. Buying, selling andletting properties can be emotional; youneed to be able to provide support andmaintain professionalism at all times.

What is the most important thingsomeone selling a house shouldremember?

A lot of factors determine theoutcome of a sale. The marketing andadvertising of your house is key toattract the right buyers; we help ourclients to achieve the best strategy tosell/let their property – presentation iskey. Choosing a good agent with goodlocal knowledge, great customer serviceand who are able to offer the serviceyou require will help achieve a good salewith minimal stress.

What is the most important thingsomeone buying a house shouldremember?

Know your area – is it the best placefor you and your needs – such asschools, transport, environment? Mostpeople say they just know when theywalk into the right house.
