KEYNOTE SPEAKER

DAN WOODFINSenior Director of System Operations, ERCOT

Dan Woodfin is the Senior Director of System Operations for ERCOT, with responsibility for the 24x7 reliable operations of the ERCOT System serving 90% of Texas, including ERCOT’s real-time operations, operational planning, engineering and support activities.

Dan joined ERCOT in 2003 and has served in various leadership roles, including Director of System Planning, prior to moving into his current position in 2012.

He was centrally involved in the $7 billion Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ) project to provide transmission for wind resources in Texas, and has led

ERCOT’s initiatives on economic planning, ancillary services redesign and renewable integration.

Dan has 30 years of diverse experience in the electric utility industry including various power system planning and development activities for the Central and Southwest Corp. utilities and Reliant Energy prior to joining ERCOT.

Dan earned both his BSEE and MBA degrees from Texas A&M University. He was recognized by the Texas House of Representatives, the Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association, and twice by the Utility Wind Integration Group for ERCOT’s work on renewable integration and the CREZ program.

The (Continuing) Evolution of the ERCOT GridAs the mix of resources on the electric power system continues to change, the role of the transmission and distribution systems are evolving as well. As the independent system operator for the grid that serves 23 million Texans, ERCOT is at the forefront of many of these changes. Dan will discuss recent events and changes to the ERCOT transmission system, as well as expectations for the future..
