This summer you will need to complete 3 assignments. You must choose at least two from this sheet- the third can be your choice. Make sure that you are turning in an original piece. Copying something someone did on pinterest and just changing it from a drawing to a painting for example IS CHEATING. Plagiarism results in an immediate failing grade for that assignment. You will also need to think about a possible concentration.
Drawing Portfolio- each assignment should be 5x7 or larger but no bigger than 18x24. Make sure that each assignment is a good example of at least one of the “drawing concerns” which means you should be paying attention to: Line quality, light and shade, rendering of form, composition, surface manipulation, the illusion of depth and mark-making
● Use a figure from a fashion magazine and change the surroundings to create an original piece. Try and keep the posture and proportions as close to the original image as possible. The background scenery and clothing should be inspired by the character’s demeanor and posture.
● Choose an object from your dresser or nightstand. Draw your chosen object from 3 different viewpoints or angles.
● Draw or paint an object of your choice on a nontraditional drawing surface
● Hands- Create an artwork inspired by the theme of hands.
2d Portfolio- Each assignment should show understanding and application of an element of art or principle of design. Projects should be larger than 5x7 but no larger than 18x24
● Take a picture of an object that breaks up negative space in an interesting and or balanced way and then
paint the negative space
● Simplify an image into simple organic or geometric shapes.
● This work of art should exemplify figure/ground relationships, contrast and emphasis
● Triptych- Use a wadded up piece of paper, a brown paper sack or a piece of popcorn. Start with a
contour drawing, then a shaded version and end with a black and white paper-cut version.
