` Newsletter 20/2016 4 August 2016 Dear Parents, Guardians and Learners Positive mind; positive vibes; positive life These days, we are so quick to get upset or be unhappy about services, situations, friends and even family. Most of the time it’s things we can deal with and, as adults, we get used to these mishaps or stumbling blocks as part of life. To teenagers, however, these issues can seem huge and are frequently over-emphasised or exaggerated on social media platforms. Many teenagers lack the experience, tools and skills to deal with these issues and the results may be devastating; ranging from the loss of self-confidence to suicide. In my life, I have always tried to remain positive; to focus on the good in people and do the best I can at whatever I attempt to do. Recently I saw a post which listed five rules for happiness. This summed it up nicely for me and I would like to share them with you: Rule 1: Love yourself: We are who we are. Accept yourself for who you are. We are all unique and we all have good qualities. Focus on the good. Rule 2: Do Good: Always do what is good and right. If it feels wrong, it probably is. Listen to your inner voice. Rule 3: Always forgive: Forgive those who are against you or treat you badly. Be the bigger person irrespective of age. Don’t waste time and energy worrying about things over which you have no control. Rule 4: Harm no one: Simple. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Rule 5: Be Positive: This is an important one for me. Always look for the positive aspects of every situation. You have a choice and the outcomes are based on your decisions. Learn from your mistakes and recognise the good choices you’ve made. No matter how bad a situation is, it could always be worse. See the positive wherever possible and learn to enjoy it. BE HAPPY! BE POSITIVE! Yours sincerely MR S MICHAS HOD: PRACTICAL SUBJECTS

positive life

These days, we are so quick to get upset or be unhappy about services, situations, friends and even family.

Rule 2: Do Good: Always do what is good and

right.

Do unto others as

you would have them do unto you. Rule 5: Be Positive: This is an important one for

me. Always look for the positive aspects of every situation. You have a choice and the outcomes are based on your decisions. Learn from your mistakes and recognise the good choices you’ve made. No matter how bad a situation is, it could always be worse. See the positive wherever possible and learn to enjoy it.

The History Department will be taking 40 learners to the Apartheid Museum on Wednesday, 17 August 2016. The bus will leave after school and return at approximately 16h00. This excursion will cost R35 per learner and will be booked on a first paid, first served basis. If your child would like to join the excursion, please fill in the indemnity form which is available from the Grade 9 History teachers, as this must accompany the payment to be made to the Bookkeeper. Learners will be allowed to wear the existing jersey or the new jersey until April 2018, following which the old jersey will be entirely phased out. Grade 11: Matric Registration

All Grade 11s are reminded to bring their ID books/cards to

school so that a photocopy can be made for matric registration

in 2017. If you do not have an ID book/card, please apply for

one as soon as possible as it is a requirement for writing the

matric examinations. Enquiries: Mrs Brocco or Mrs Stokoe -

Front Office.

Narconon shares

important drug-related

info with our Grade 9s

Last Thursday, our Grade 9s attended a Drug Talk which was presented by Robert van der Feyst, CEO of Narconon in Cape Town.

The messages around the risks associated with drug consumption and abuse were clear, with specific emphasis being placed on the way drugs stay in the body long after the ‘high’ has been experienced. This makes it difficult to stop using them as they are released from the body’s fat cells during exercise and physical activities.
