Supervise the issue and return of materials and equipment to ensure in good working order. 4. Undertake occupational Health and Safety duties and provide advice to teaching staff and update manuals appropriately and relevantly. 5. Order various materials as required and make necessary arrangements for collection and/or dispatch.

Position overviewThis position will provide a specialist service to staff and Indigenous students within the VET training teams; assist in a range of specific functions in support to the Science, Arts, Health and Conservation, Land Management units delivered across Batchelor Institute campuses. As well as manage and maintain the teaching classrooms for these areas ensuring that these premises are fully stocked and functional.

Detailed statement of duties1. Control the storage, safe handling and usage of equipment and associated materials within the VET

framework.

2. Prepare equipment and materials for workshops and/or individuals.

3. Supervise the issue and return of materials and equipment to ensure in good working order.

4. Undertake occupational Health and Safety duties and provide advice to teaching staff and update manuals appropriately and relevantly.

5. Order various materials as required and make necessary arrangements for collection and/or dispatch.

6. Organise purchasing of required goods and services and maintain financial records; organise inventories, record and monitor budgets for the teaching teams.

7. Responsible for the day to day running of the practical classroom activities in Batchelor and oversee the Alice Springs facility by liaising with lecturing staff based in Alice Springs.

8. Provide support to students and provide technical advice and assistance to teaching staff during practical classes and to be able to work effectively and independently.

9. Provide an environment that simulates a variety of realistic practical settings that provides students with an opportunity to practice hands-on skills.

10. Maintain the clinical equipment so that students can practice in an environment that is cultural appropriate and non-threatening and in accordance with the course requirements.

11. Develop and maintain good relationships with students and provide a high standard of service.

12. Promote and provide a safe working environment at all times and be able to work within a framework of established procedures, workplace routines and deadlines.

13. Organise orientation for staff and students in the practical teaching classrooms .

Essential selection criteria1. Proven knowledge of science, health, arts or CLM with demonstrated interpersonal communication and

organisational skills.

2. Proven ability for problem solving and to work effectively unsupervised, to meet deadlines and manage stock levels and be able to prioritise workloads.

3. Must have a current First Aid certificate.

4. Demonstrated capacity to work within the social, political and cultural environments of Indigenous Australian communities and organisations.

5. Demonstrate capacity to work with Indigenous students and ensure a culturally safe learning environment.

6. A proven knowledge and awareness of historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and societies

7. The ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

8. Proven ability and/or experience working in a multi-skilled environment with demonstrated expertise in one of the disciplines either in health, arts, science or CLM.

9. Demonstrated experience in the application and usage of relevant Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Email.

10. Possess a Current criminal history check or the ability to obtain one.

11. Possess a current NT OCHRE Card or the ability to obtain one.

12. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.

Desirable selection criteria1. Previous experience in an educational institution with exposure to a practical skills classroom.

2. Current NT ‘C’ class drivers’ licence.
