Position overviewThis lecturing position is responsible for the preparation and delivery of the Diploma in Creative Indigenous Writing (DCIW) through a mix of on-line and workshop delivery mode for teaching and learning, including of student progression, administration requirements and recruitment. The DCIW course is part of the partnership agreement between Charles Darwin University (CDU) and Batchelor Institute. The role is expected to closely liaise with relevant agencies and the local community, especially writers. This position requires experience in higher education course delivery as well as qualifications at a Masters or possibly PhD level. The role is expected to contribute to research and engage in scholarship.

Detailed statement of duties1. Undertake ongoing development of culturally appropriate course and subject curriculum including

supporting resource materials for both on-line and face to face teaching.2. Coordinate and deliver workshops, classes and student assessment, involving a range of teaching

and learning activities in Creative Writing both on-line and face-to-face.3. Administrative tasks connected to teaching and learning including student records, reporting on

student progress, supporting students in course related academic matters, coordinating student travel, enrolment and recruitment and documenting the teaching process.

4. Maintain the Institute's administrative procedures and policies, including those of the partnership.5. Attend and participate at Team, School, Institute and partnership meetings as required.6. Undertake research and scholarly activities and, where eligible, supervise Higher Degree by research

candidates.7. Maintain personal professional activities and development through activities such as writing project

work, course development, consultancy in creative writing discipline related areas.8. Maintain close liaison with relevant creative writing industry and agencies, community services

infrastructure, and community members at all times.9. Other duties as required.

Essential selection criteria1. Demonstrated connection with Indigenous writers and writing, and a high motivation to work with

Indigenous people to facilitate publishable writing of a high standard.2. A Postgraduate qualification relevant to Creative Writing, and/or equivalent professional qualifications,

and/or substantial experience relevant to this position.3. A publications record as a writer, and/or other significant industry experience.4. Demonstrated experience to develop, teach and evaluate culturally appropriate curriculum and course

materials for both on-line and face to face teaching.5. Proven ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

peoples, including adult students and community members.6. Demonstrated capacity to respond effectively to the learning needs of adult Aboriginal and Torres

Strait Islander students enrolled in in higher education courses.7. Experience in online teaching and a high degree of competence in the use of personal computers and

electronic communications technology.8. Proven ability to work effectively with others in culturally diverse teams, as well as having good time

management skills and being able to work independently of direct supervision.9. Demonstrated capacity to undertake a range of administrative and supervisory tasks with high level

skills and knowledge in electronic technologies.10. An emerging research profile of publications/research projects and demonstrated capacity to lead and

/or support research and scholarship in the field of Indigenous creative writing.11. Willingness to undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory, if required, as a light aircraft

passenger, and as an NT "Class C" licensed driver of vehicles on unformed roads and to be prepared to stay in a range of accommodation available to Institute staff on remote communities, including camping out.

12. Possess a current criminal history check or the ability to obtain one.13. Possess a current NT Ochre Card or the ability to obtain one.14. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute

WHS Policies and Procedures.

Desirable Selection Criteria1. A Doctorate or Masters in Creative Writing and/or Literary Studies area.2. A track record in securing research and/or project grant income.3. A record of successful supervision of Higher Degree by Research candidates.
