Introduction

• Miospores are produced on the land by plants.

Introduction

• During normal conditions 95 % of miospores are transported on a distance of less than 1 Km from the mother plant

1 Km

Introduction

X,000 Km

• In very rare cases, miospores can be transportedon very long distance.

Long-range dispersal: conclusions

• Effective long-range dispersal would seem the exception rather than the rule, especially for the larger miospores.

• If exceptions exist for some isolated miospores, this is much more improbable for complete miospore assemblages.

• Therefore, large oceans, mountains … can be barriers preventing free miospore dispersal
