Position: Grade 7 Homeroom/Literature/ELA Teacher The School St. Joseph School is a Catholic School in the Jesuit tradition serving approximately 600 students in grades K-8. Each grade level has three classes. St. Joseph School is a proven educational model within the Archdiocese of Seattle. The program balances both academic rigor and character development through experiential, project-based learning. St. Joseph School is seeking a 7th grade homeroom teacher to join a highly motivated, curious, and passionate staff of educators. When Starting with the opening of the academic school year 2018-19 with possible professional development opportunities beginning in the summer of 2018. Position The 7th grade teacher will work collaboratively with the other 7th and 8th grade teachers and teach 7th grade homeroom, literature and ELA. Teachers have ample opportunities to take on leadership roles within the school as lead teachers, mentors and leaders of study groups that will drive school-wide growth and best practices. Responsibilities

• Teach 7th grade homeroom, literature, and ELA as outlined by the Archdiocese of Seattle and aligned with the Common Core Standards;

• Create a supportive and caring classroom environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another, through student-centered instruction, collaboration and authentic assessment;

• Develop short-term and long-term learning targets derived from Common Core Standards; • Consistently use formative assessments to drive instruction; • Differentiate instruction so that all students achieve mastery of learning targets; • Use the school-wide data system to collect and analyze student data and modify instruction

accordingly; • Maintain an open and cooperative relationship with students, colleagues, and parents; • Incorporate literacy into all units of instruction; • Prepare students to lead Student-Led Conferences once a year; • Participate in all staff, building, and grade level meetings and perform various faculty supervisory

duties; • Moderate the newspaper club;

The ideal candidate will:

• Have a minimum of 2 years teaching experience (preferred, but not required) either at the middle school or high school level;

• Have middle school experience; • Hold a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred); • Believe that all students can learn and achieve at high levels; • Desire to work in a teacher-driven, student-centered environment; • Demonstrate curiosity about the world and passion to engage students in meaningful and authentic

learning experiences; • Have a commitment to social justice;

• Be a life-long learner; • Work well with colleagues and collaboratively plan interdisciplinary units; • Communicate effectively and often with families; • Desire to continue professional development; • Have experience using technology within the classroom; • Hold a valid teaching certificate; • Practicing Catholic preferred;
