Change of Heart A father asks two sons to go and work in
the vineyard. The first son says that he
won’t but changes his mind and does. The
second son says that he will but doesn’t
bother.
Which son do we identify with? The first
son speaks to those of us who have
embraced Christ’s teaching late in life. Yet
gain Jesus is telling us that those who
have managed a change of heart are as
important to him if not more important
than those who think they’ve got everything right. The second son
speaks to those of us who have lots of good intentions, but at the
end of the day the evidence of discipleship amounts to little more
than lip service.
Originally this parable was aimed at the Pharisees who didn’t feel
they needed to change how they lived. Like the Pharisees we might
feel that we are upright church going people, but that doesn’t mean
there isn’t plenty we need to address. We still live in a world where
there’s plenty to put right. God’s vineyard needs workers who will
say ‘yes’ to God’s plan, and more importantly, get stuck into the
job.
For those of us who have lived our lives doing the same old things
it might be very difficult to turn around a pattern of poor or
ineffectual behaviour, but we only need to talk to a reformed
offender or a reformed addict to know that a change of heart is not
beyond any of us.
October Stations Envelopes for the October Stations
are in the Development
Boxes or in the Church porches.
Thank you for your continued
support.

‘Play and Pray’‘Play and Pray’‘Play and Pray’‘Play and Pray’ will resume in the Parish Church on 9th October. Each Sunday at

be invited to listen to children's stories from the Bible and partake in
religious activities. If you wish to enrol your child in the ‘Play and Pray’ group,

In the Gospel In our Bible lesson today, Jesus told a story to show how different people obey
what God has called them to do. In Jesus' parable of the two sons, the father
asked both sons to go and work in his vineyard. One boy answered "No," but
went and worked. The other son answered "yes" did not go. In telling the
story, Jesus wanted us to realise that what we do is more important than what
we say we will do. Jesus wants us to answer, "Yes," when he tells us to "Love
one another," but what he really wants is for us to love one another! Jesus
wants us to answer, "Yes," when he says, "Follow me," but what he really
wants is for us to follow him!
Each time a baby is born, God chooses a special Angel to protect him or her. That angel is called a “Guardian Angel”. You are never alone. Your Guardian Angel is always beside you and is your Special Friend! Say this prayer to your Guardian Angel every day:
O’ Angel of God, my Guardian dear,
To whom God's love commits me here, Ever this day be at
my side, To light and guard, to rule and
guide. Amen.

Saint Vincent De Paul took care of the poor people in France. Men and women helped him and today his followers take care of sick or elderly people, and orphaned
children all over the world.
My PrayerMy PrayerMy PrayerMy Prayer Father, sometimes we say, "Yes," but Father, sometimes we say, "Yes," but Father, sometimes we say, "Yes," but Father, sometimes we say, "Yes," but our actions say, "No." Help us to be our actions say, "No." Help us to be our actions say, "No." Help us to be our actions say, "No." Help us to be faithful to do what you have called us faithful to do what you have called us faithful to do what you have called us faithful to do what you have called us to do. In Jesus' name we pray. Amento do. In Jesus' name we pray. Amento do. In Jesus' name we pray. Amento do. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen
If you have a query in relation to any of the above please contact Margaret in the

A man went and said to the first of his two sons, “My boy, you go and work in the vineyard today.” He answered, “I will not go”, but afterwards thought better of it and went.
Saint Vincent
de Paul (1581 to 1660) September 27th
Born in Aquitaine France and
became a Priest. He devoted his
whole life to the Service of the
poor. He founded a congregation of priests - the
Vincentians, and with St. Louise de Marillac, the
Sisters of Charity. He is often credited with
founding the Society of St. Vincent de Paul but in
fact that was Frederick Ozanam who adopted him as
the Patron of the society. Today we thank God for
the good work that continues to be done by the
society with the name of this Holy and charitable
man.

Congress Bell
The Eucharistic Congress Bell will
visit Portlaoise on Monday 3rd
October at 7.30pm and will leave
on Tuesday morning after the 10am
Mass.
The Eucharistic Congress Bell calls
us to gather, but also to reflect.
The silence that follows after the
ringing of the bell is a time of prayer—it offers us time
to think about things, especially the things that matter
in life—this also includes the people we care about.
For many there will not be the opportunity to physically
attend the Eucharistic Congress next summer,
therefore we extend a warm invitation to all who would
like to join with us in pilgrimage and preparation. We
especially invite the schools of the parish.
The Eucharistic Congress as a milestone in the life
There are events in our lives that stand out when we
look back at our past:
The best holiday we ever had, my first day in this
school,…- special moments in our lives. They are also
things that we look forward to in the future: our
birthday, our summer holidays…
The Eucharistic Congress is one of those events. It will
be a chance for Christians from all over the world to
gather, to think about what the Eucharist means to
them—by Eucharist we mean Mass, Adoration and the
lifestyle that goes with belief in Jesus and the Gospel.
This is going to happen in June 2012, in the RDS in
Dublin for a week, with it’s Grande Finale in Croke Park.
While this is a wonderful event for us in Ireland,
without the pilgrim attitude - that recognises the
presence of God everywhere and in every person—the
Congress is not as meaningful. That’s why the Bell is
calling us to start thing about the things that matter to
us now, where God is in all things, and the important
place of Mass, of our weekly meeting Jesus in the
parish on Sunday.
Many years ago St. Patrick travelled through our
country ringing a bell and calling the Irish people to
have faith in God, maybe this bell will offer a similar
opportunity to us—let us pray fro renewed faith in God
for ourselves and for anyone else we can think of.
