Do You Think That Having Back Painis Just a Normal Part of Life?

The fact is that those aches and pains may be warning signs thatyour back is wearing out, or degenerating, prematurely. Everyday, your spine has to handle the stresses you put on it. Poor posture orrepeated movements that strain your spine (micro traumas), injurieslike whiplash (major traumas), spine conditions present since birth(congenital conditions), and even your life-style may contribute tospinal degeneration. You may be able to prevent, slow, or halt spinaldegeneration with the help of your chiropractor.

LJ-0100067369

By: Lori Rademacher of ExpertTax Solutions, Inc.Understanding the IRAWithdrawal

Rules for Tax Year 2010!Note to our retirees: If you are approaching themagicage of 70 1/2, then you probably know that it is wise toreview your situation approximately sixmonths beforethe golden day arrives tomake sure you are up onthe rules. There ismuch to know aboutmaking thisparticular transition and it has everything to dowithtaxes and financial planning. For instance if you turn 70½ in 2010, you should beset up to start receiving somewithdrawals no later thanApril 1st,2011. If youmiss this ormisunderstand this, you could be leaving yourself open for a hefty 50% taxon theminimum distribution due if not taken. (Note thatRoth IRA’s are not under this rule). There are severalother rules associatedwith this that are unique to eachindividual. Not sure how to handle this or if it’s handled?Your friendly, neighborhood tax accountant would beglad to help you out on thismatter or any other questionsyoumay have. Nomatter how you slice it….planningearly could save youmoney and a headache!

POTTERVILLE — Portland St. Patrick is enjoying theirbest boys basketball season in recent memory, after their78-74 win at Potterville on Jan. 14 gave the Shamrocks a por-tion of the league lead in the Central Michigan Athletic Con-ference, with a record of 6-2 overall and 5-1 in CMAC play.

Five different players scored in double figures for St. Patsin the game, led by sophomore Collin Lay with 16 points. PaulPung and Ryan Wilcox each had 15 points, Jerrid Smith had12 and David Simon added 10 against the Vikings, to put theShamrocks into a four-way tie for first in the CMAC stand-ings.

That sort of shared scoring output has been a hallmark ofthe team all season, according to St. Pats head coach MarkScheurer.

“People ask me who our best player is, and we don’t haveone,” Scheurer said. “That’s not a knock on any of the kids, but I was looking at our stat leaders today, and our high scor-er (Wilcox) is averaging 13 (points) a game. Paul Pung has 10,and we have three other people averaging 7 to 9. Collectivelyas a team, I think we’re very good and very competitive. Ifyou’re looking for that one first-team all-league-type person, Idon’t think we have one.”

That the Shamrocks have climbed into the upper tier ofone of the toughest small-school leagues in the entire state, tied with Pewamo-Westphalia, Bath and Fulton and a gameahead of Laingsburg, who handed them their only league loss

Shamrock hoopsters down Vikings, share league leadBy SCOTT [email protected]

so far, has a great deal to do with how coachable the team is.Scheurer said that coaching this group is a pleasure.“They want to learn,” he said. “How they listen to what you

say and incorporates it into what they do, as quickly as theydo, it’s just fun.”

There is also a greater familiarity between the athletes andthe coaching staff than exists at most schools, since Scheurer, along with JV basketball coach Dan Thelen, assist his brotherBryan coaching the Shamrock baseball program. Bryan, inturn, serves as assistant varsity basketball coach.

“Most of these kids have played in the baseball program, and they know us,” Scheurer said. “They know our expecta-tions. I don’t know if they get too much of us, but what a riotit is to coach them for two-thirds of the year.”

That good feeling will be put to the test as St. Pats getsinto the meat of its basketball schedule, with its next threegames against the three teams with which it shares the topspot in the league, beginning with P-W on Jan. 21. Next week, the Shamrocks travel to Fulton on Wednesday, Jan. 26, andthen host Bath on Friday, Jan. 28.
