Instead of an isolated single building, we created a multitude of nodes where members of the community could meet, as in a medieval city-center. We designed three main community buildings; a meeting room and hall, a gymnasium, and a coffee shop, which were orga-nized on the site around the low-rise high density residential dwellings. The community buildings serve as beacons to each other, and help guide the users through the site. The site is currently an abandoned hospital campus in St. John’s Newfoundland. We were chosen to present our ideas at the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s Festival in St. John’s in July 2012.Professor: Talbot Sweetapple; Group: Matt Bishop, Izak Bridman, Alex Weaver

The goal of this studio was to design and construct of a 400 sqft multi-purpose shelter. It will act as a resting point for the local equestrian club, a warming hut for the cross country skiers, and storage and refuge for local fishermen. The design was influenced by our goal to learn about light timber frame construction, and local woodworking craftsmanship.

Professors: Talbot Sweetapple and Diana Carl (done is collaboration with 9 M.Arch students)

This house was designed for a young bachelor. The site overlooks Guatemala city, therefore the project is about framing the view of the valley below. It features large open concept rooms, and ample outdoor living areas. It was designed so that the client can entertain guests both indoor and outdoor. It is also completely wheel-chair accessible. This project is currently under construction.

LAKP Diseño & Desarrollo; I was involved in the developing details, as well as conceptual design for the garden and pool area

greenHAUS 2011/2012 commercial development

GreenHAUS is a strip mall in Honduras that will begin construction in fall 2012. It defies the traditional idea of what a strip mall is in many ways. The focus is to invite people to stay and enjoy the green space as well as integrating the indoor and outdoor spaces. We have incorporated living walls, a green roof as well as water features through out the project.

LAKP Diseño & Desarrollo; I was involved in the design development (mainly the parking area and walk ways) and 3D modeling

This competition aimed at generating ideas about housing people living with HIV and AIDS in Haiti. In our entry, we focused on superior ventilation methods as well as thermal mass and sterile surfaces to enhance the health of those living with this disease. We also studied the local venacular, and used rubble from the earthquake of 2009 in our design. Our entry ranked in the final 20 out of over 400 entries.

In the last semester of my undergraduate studies, I was given the task of designing an educational institute that was to fit into the dense urban fabric of downtown Halifax (Nova Scotia). The program included a school to accommodate kindergarten through grade 12, a seniors centre as well as a natatorium. I focused on creating flexible, well lit spaces in a building that matched the surroundings of the neighborhood.Professor: Susan K. Molesky

The house was the core focus for the second semester of the B.E.D.S program. The studio was lead by local architect Brian MacKay Ly-ons. My design consisted of a main service wall that houses all functions of cooking, bathing and circulation, as well as a totemic hearth. I also focused on creating open indoor and outdoor living areas with the implementation of a green roof on the second floor terrace.

For the survey of modern architecture class, I was assigned the Eames House (Ray and Charles Eames 1949, Pacific Palicades, Califor-nia). The assignment was to learn about the house through drawing it’s original plan, building a model as well as designing an addition in the same vein as the original design. I chose to add a guest house using the existing grid that Ray and Charles Eames designed.
