1 Hello, My name is Carolina Flores. I’m a junior at the Tepper School of Business pursuing the General Management track, which combines Graphic Media Management and Marketing. I hope to further my education by acquiring a minor in Communication Design. Graphic design is my way of contributing to the ideal that we should leave this world looking better than the way we found it. Whether it is making a project simpler to understand, prettier to entice attention, or ultimately more user friendly, I want to be a part of that evolution. Here is a small sample of some selected work to date. I love what I do and I hope you do too.

Hello,My name is Carolina Flores.

SoulStylzSoulStylz, a hip-hop crew on CMUs campus, needed a new logo to reflect their unique and vibrant style. They also required eye catching posters to publicize auditions in the hopes of recruiting new talent.

I took this opportunity to experiment with creating my own font. Every letter is based on a single sized circle. Here are the two different “y’s” I concidered. I chose the one on the left because of how well it complemented the “t” that would lie beside it.

The last piece of the logo was to replace the “o” with a heart to emphasize the passion and energy the dancers bring to each performance.

2012 BOCThe Business Opportunities Conference (BOC) is designed to facilitate students’ first steps in developing strong connections with leading companies in today’s market. For this event I designed the student brochure to enhance and expedite navigation throughout the conference, a poster to attract students to participate, and a t-shirt to make staff more visible and approachable.

My goal was to create something appropriate and informational that could be used by anyone at the conference. Students were interested in quickly learning about companies to decide which to talk to. Recruiters needed to know about how the day itself would be scheduled.

FM LimousineFM Limousine provides car services within the city of Pittsburgh and specializes in reliable and affordable transportation. For this company I created an original logo design and new business cards to improve their brand image and public awareness in Pittsburgh.

The image with the outline of a car and the horizontal version of the back of the card are a few of the first iterations I made and discarded. My ideas included making sure to identify this company with Pittburgh and making it easy for viewers to understand this business card was presenting a transporation solution.

Josef Müller BrockmanThis was my fourth assignment for CDF. We were asked to create a slideshow summarizing the life of one our favorite designers. I chose to discuss Josef Müller Brockman’s accomplishments with the grid system. I created this graphic with his style in mind.

Steel City Step ShowThe Steel City Step Show offers an opportunity for historically black Greek letter organizations from across Pittsburgh to interact and compete for the title of best fraternity and best sorority step performance. I created two flyers to advertise for this event that each feature a performer who would be participating in the competition.

I chose to represent these people graphically becuase I wanted to try and achieve a “pop art” style. I used my knowledge of silk screen printing to discover how to accomplish this effect in illusttrator.

SketchesI have come to understand the importance of sketching and have just started working on mastering this technique. Here are examples of the fun I’ve had with sketching and doodling.

Bottle Translation ProjectThe goal was to create three drawings. First, an observational line drawing of an actual hand held object. Second, to translate that line drawing into one with tone/gray values. Lastly, to create a composite image using flat shapes cut out of black construction paper and assembled with adhesive/glue.

Beyond the Lights Of VegasThis was my final project for CDF. We were asked to design magazine spreads. I chose to take the big city of Las Vegas and show travelers a side of it that they had no idea existed–a side that excludes all of the lights.

As the reader progresses through the spread, the distance from the vegas increases.
