About Hi, my name is Jelmer Coppens, I am 21 years old and live in Haarlem, the Netherlands. I am doing a Higher professional bachelor in fine art and Design in education. I am in my second year of a total of four years, where I learn to make art, look at art and transfer my knowledge. I learn to work with different techniques and materials, do internships at schools, cultural institutions or with artists and go on a study trip abroad every year. I also work (outside of the Academy) on art projects. As a prospective art teacher, I develop my creative talent, my critical view of the world and learn how to transfer this. After graduation, I am authorized to teach in primary education, pre-vocational secondary education, lower and upper secondary education, and in cultural organizations.

Before this education I did a level 4 Senior secondary vocational education to become a creative

professional. As a creative professional, you work as an independent professional and entrepreneur

who designs, makes and sells products. During the education I learned both traditional craftsmanship

and new (digital) techniques, which I use to develop traditional and innovative products and

combinations thereof. I made products on commission or create products on my own initiative and

put them on the market. It often concerns unique or small series of products. This is in line with the

development that customers are increasingly asking for authentic and unique products. Products of

which they know who made it and which have a story behind it.

In the first year I learned about wood and leather

products, in the second year I specialized in shoes, bags

and hats and specialized again in the third year in hats. I

also did my final exam in making hats.

Besides education I am a Scout. I am an adult member of

a local scout group and a national volunteer. As national

volunteer I work on the development and promotion of

the rover scout program. I was also involved in

representing of my national scout organisation during

multiple events and seminars.
