Helen’s goal is to create simple, elegant and affordable

– Specific Design required for wind and earthquake

Overview:

To develop for construction a two bedroomed dwelling on a split level to work with the contours of the land, the site restrictions and the outstanding sea view. To develop the design in order to enhance windows and breezeways internally for maximum air flow and to utilise covered roofs and verandas to incorporate a swimming pool linked to the dwelling.

Overview:

A 3 bedroomed home with an office and a separate entrance hall situated on 15 acres in rural Maungawera.

The design brief was to create a contemporary cottage utilising two claddings: bevel back weatherboards and horizontal corrugate.

The using of corrugate marries in with the existing shed and separates the two wings.

Site Analysis:

– Zone: Rural Residential QLDC

– Resource Consent required as rural residential a controlled activity

– Wind zone: Very high, engineered bracing design

– Earthquake zone: B

– Snow Zone: 1.5kPa

Using a mixture of materials James Hardie Linea weatherboard on a 20mm cavity and Solid Plaster on a 20 Series Masonry Block

– The site complies with the district plan to construct two separate dwellings.

Overview:

A self contained cottage with a single garage and two bedrooms in the roof space, for rental.

A four bedroomed, two bathroomed, single storey residence on the same site for a family

Overview:

A single storey 3 bedroom plus a loft over the garage with its own bathroom.

Main consideration is the expansive view.

Mixture of claddings including schist.
